What variants are you referring to? I assume that "AK-47" is referring to the more recent AKM models while "M16" is implying that it's the M16A4 model.

Personally, I think it's more situational than that one is inherently better than the other.
I would always choose an H&K weapon, though. Nothing beats german engineering.
