Author Topic: Giant cardboard robot - Version one, FINISHED! Halloween here I come  (Read 6556 times)

Finished product

It's a bit hard to see, but I've added shoes I made along with little tubes to look like hydraulics. I added some windshield shades for the arms, two inside-out soda boxes for shoulders, and I made the arm for the claw. That's what I've done since the last update at least.

It's a bit odd looking in a still picture but I think it looks pretty good in motion. No stilts, but it's still 8ft tall since it adds a bit over two feet to my heigth. The right hand has three movable fingers and the left hand is a claw, which you can see better below.

Any suggestions? Changes I should make?

Original Post

So I've started work trying to make one of these sorta things from scratch

The differences I plan on having are:

bendable fingers on one hand [ x ]
cardboard helmet instead of tophat [ x ]
feet instead of big elephant pillars []
One mechanical claw on the left hand [ x ]
A tube looking thing connecting the forearm to the shoulder instead of another cardboard arm segment []

Progress

The helmet needs a little more for it to be finished,
the torso is about done and it has a backpack attached to the back of it so that I can just attach it all to the torso and carry it with the straps,
the forearm is done and has bendable fingers that work like tendons, however I was running low on tape and so it didn't work out quite like I had hoped, so I'm thinking of remaking it

MOAR PROGRESS

The redone arm- or forearm at least. Much more stable and easy to hold. To make things easier I just made it have 3 bendable fingers instead of 5

The updated torso with the updated head attached. I decided on something similar to what was posted near the bottom of page two, where I'd have some decorative shoulders/biceps on top, and then my actual arms would go directly into the forearm. Also my head will go in that little circle in the middle

good god, Handyman from bioshock infinite anyone?

If you need free cardboard, go to a Kroger or grocery store at Midnight - 3am and go to the back and they'll give you some.

Also if you are making a helmet, don't plan on hearing anything people say while you're moving. Cardboard helmets are loud as heck.

good luck to you sir

post your progress

Expected you to make this:

just a little structure tip
cylinders are super loving ridiculously sturdy if they're upright, use them in the legs.

Thanks, that'll probably be better than what I had in mind, hehe
