Author Topic: Took and had another lesson in driving tonight.  (Read 1727 times)

Well, after some quality family time my dad decided to teach me how to drive.
Started out real well, first I cleaned the windshield, then I put it into drive and then we went. I got onto the road where he then began to instruct me.
I go down the road and then BAM windy roads, I get around them with ease (aside from how fast I had to react and hit the pedals)

After words we continue, then we start to get to the real fun part. I live on top of a real dangerous hill with a windy long road that goes all the way to the bottom. I go down it and without a doubt we went fast even though I had the breaks applied. I get to the bottom with a top speed of 25-30mph. I then go on up to the stop sign and apply the breaks, I stopped kinda hard though because I hadn't hit them early enough.

I then take and allow a car to pass, after he passes I turn right and go into my ISPs parking lot. I put the car in reverse and head back to the hill, I go up just fine and everything. There was some foggy parts that made the visibility low but luckily it cleared up before I hit the curves again.

After I clear the curves we go back to the house and then back out again for another trip.
This time he teaches me how to back up from a road and into a mainroad once we got to the bottom.
Then we head back up just to run out of gas...

As part of the teaching he had the scenario of loud music as a little distraction training.
The back windshield was blurred real bad so that was an issue.
Had to use windshield wipers a couple of times, and the mirror once.

So yea, tonight was progress. Had fun and got some driving instruction in.

Late edit:
Was driving a Chevy car

Oops, forgot to add what to discuss about.

Mom took me to a parking lot and let me drive for a few minutes. My giant feet pressed the wrong pedal and I had to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting the only two cars in the lot. I felt like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBO8SWpOzOA (bad recording, but it was the only one I could find :c)

How close were the pedals? And also, you weren't using both feet were you?

No. The pedals were about 1.5" apart but it was a while ago so I don't remember very well.

i drive 95 on the highway #yolo
driving isnt that bad lol

You need to work on foot placement, I'm wide footed myself so I just put my heel on the floor and pivot from gas to brake.

It really isn't bad at all, its just a bit uncomfortable when you're trying to not plummet about 200 foot off the side a hill, in most driving cases the most you do is hit a ditch in a wreck, or a pole. Which is still bad.

I started driving when I was fourteen years old; the summer before freshman year. I drove in a parking lot with my dad in the night and we sort of started from there. Driving was easy for me; probably because I played so many racing simulators in my lifetime. I then took about a year long break from it and I started driving a little bit again. Eventually, I grabbed my permit a couple months after I hit sixteen and finally hit the roads.

I get my license this September. c:

Nice, hope you have fun on the road.

First I have to have my birth certificate replaced, that'll take a bit. Then I have to go down to the courthouse and wait a bit to take the test.
It'll be a few months.

However I should be getting me a pickup truck when I get my license.

I feel like I'm gonna hate driving. I can't drive good in any game, either it's hard or I deliberately slam into things. I'm mostly worried about gauging distances and keeping an eye on my mirrors.

Driving in real life is nothing like driving in a video game.

Take it from a licensed driver.

As Pecon said, its much different.

You aren't using a keyboard and mouse / controller. You're using a steering wheel and pedals.
Also keeping eyes on gauges is real easy, all you do is look down for a second and read it.
Mirrors are also easy, just glance and you're good.

Trust me, its pretty easy. And its fun.

Believe it or not, driving in the real world is much easier. Video games just help your reaction time and help you get the basics down. At least, that's what it did for me. I've already avoided getting killed by a crazy soccer mom almost hitting me directly in my door when trying to pull into my own parking lot.

That sounds like a pain in the ass. I had to show an excessive amount of identification which also involved my birth certificate, I believe.

I should be buying my first car by the end of the month - or at least have the money for it.

This states process is a bitch.
