What state do you live in and what part of the state do you live in?

because if you live in bad area i can understand why you're scared but if you live is a nice neighborhood where you never hear about crimes then you shouldn't be worried.

plus if you were attacked i don't think a knife (that is probably a 1 inch long pocket knife) will help you against a full grown man when you most likely don't even know how to use it.
