elementary has the most beautiful bg's i've ever seen

After using Elementary for a few hours, a few thoughts:

*I really miss minimizing windows.  If I wee actually working on something I need minimization, otherwise my desktop is cluttered with countless windows.

*The idea behind closing windows instead of minimizing (while nice) is terrifying to me.  I'm too afraid of losing work to close a window instead of minimizing.
Jesus, just add your own goddamn minimize button. I'm like 80% positive there's an option for it in like gconf or something.

the point is that I shouldn't have to do that.  Learn to take criticism for others.

So what's good/better about Elementary compared to other distros?

It's just another nice ubuntu-based distro. Some may simply prefer its look more than other distros, including myself.

Aside from appearance, probably the most prominent upside is software compatibility and support, that and Gnome 3 (if that's what Elementary uses) has a metric forgetton of themes available for it.

bump because I'm uninstalling windows
What distro should I get? I'm not too experianced with linux but I know a good amount about it

ubuntu (DO NOT USE WUBI THO!!!!)

But Ubuntu is great.  It's still one of the best, although it has too many default programs.

So is there something I have to turn on in bios to make booting from a flash drive work? I want to try other distros ;-;

No, not exactly if your computer is old you might want to use Plop boot manager to boot from a usb.
