Author Topic: Obama has permission to turn off all communications in US at will  (Read 10515 times)

revolutions caused more trouble than it solved

1. The president isn't suppose to have to shut down all communications. Why does he need in the first place if he won't use it?

2. Launching nukes at will would have major consequences such as them getting shot down and everyone declares war on the us/they all launch their nukes too.

3.  You are stupid.
1. In case of emergency in the event of a major terror attack being passed through communications systems, whether it be a hundred thousand mail bombs or a computer virus.

2. Shutting down communications at will would have major consequences such as devastating our economy because business depends on communications.

3. No, you are.

Why does the government need to the powers police state? What is this even supposed to say?
You keep saying to not worry, but they keep giving us more reason to be concerned. The United States was not built on protecting us from terrorists See if you feel the same way when a terrorist kills your family.
it was built on protecting our rights, regulating trade, and using tax money to build schools-roads-and bridges.I will agree with you insomuch that Congress wastes a lot of our tax money on pork-barrel projects and other political maneuvers, like buying tons of a relatively useless but politically popular tank for the military despite the military's objections that it's not gonna loving work.
Not destroying communications, spying on us without our consent, or telling us what we can and can't own. The communications thing is in case of emergency, the "spying" thing is still under heavy debate as to how it works (and I'm sure neither of us have the proper idea of how the mechanics work), and ya gotta get a license for a gun cause you don't want that whackjob down the street getting mad and shooting you in the face over it.

If you want a government that "protects" you, go live in Russia where they bomb Chechens, or China where they have their version censored version of google.
1. That is ridiculous for a number of reasons. Russia's persecution of the Chechens, while it may have been about trade routes way back when, quickly became ridiculous and completely wrong. 2. Be glad you're not living there. At least we get to KNOW what the government is doing.

You didn't, you brought in political ideology, which is how people express their common political views.  Conservatism and liberalism != political parties.

What's going on here is people scratching at everything they possibly can to get worried about the individual's in power.  What our current president's doing doesn't even dent the scandels that we've been dealing with from the US government for literally hundreds of years.  Instead of looking at existing issues, let's look at potential ones.  Because, you know, that's what a good rebellious teen loves doing!

You're an idiot, Harm.
Thisthisthisthisthis.

choosing between republicans or democrats is like shooting yourself in one foot or the other
Fixed it for you and yes.

its because the gov knows that within a few years here there will be some attempted revolution.

this is just all to prep for it. nowadays to stop the rising up, you just have to cut people off from social media. its all people have been using these days to coordinate a takeover.

dosnt mean it will ever happen. but thats the prep they need to deal with it.
Bisjac, I've seen your political opinions before and you don't know any more stuff than I do.
While that could be seen as a potentially abusive reason to do so, in practice I am pretty certain that the government isn't quite that abusive. At least, not yet...

revolutions caused more trouble than it solved
French revolution was a pile of awful
The "American Revolution" was not in fact a revolution, but a rebellion. However, "Revolution" makes it sound better so that's what they loving call it and it's bullstuff.

good thing good ol' harper would never do such a thing
I lol'd

Enjoy your 1984 government.

in other words people worrying about a button that won't be pressed for the next 500 years or more

or let's just take a look at King of The Bill's post.

Yeah Im with Harm here on this one

The way the country was originally founded is nothing like it is today.
Many things have changed, I feel a majority of power has shifted to the executive branch, a lot less has gone from the legislative and judicial branches in today's US.
You can't just give one man a lot of power. That's how wars and revolutions have started.

Well I live in Los Angeles - there would be mass panic.

Who's up for a black market of electronics? Can we do that?

Give me a very good reason to convince me that what the government is doing is completely justified.
How about you read the post.

lol this is why u dont let a monday run this country
jesus forget

ot: i live in canada lol

How about you read the post.
The one that calls me an idiot and that I have no reason to be paranoid just because? Not good enough.

How about not giving power to the executive branch that can abused.

Just because it can be abused doesn't mean it's going to be.

Just because it can be abused doesn't mean it's going to be.
Who is to guarantee that? Why does the president all of the sudden need this power? There have been serveral so called deadly internet virus attacks and in the end they usually get taken care of.

Just because it can be abused doesn't mean it's going to be.
do you think there's a reason why badspot takes down "abusable" addons?

Maybe there isn't a purpose behind it, maybe there is; I don't know. What I do know is that the president isn't going to shut off the internet like people seem to think.

do you think there's a reason why badspot takes down "abusable" addons?

I believe most add-ons are failbinned when they're broken or really poor-quality, not because they're abusable.
