how the hell wasnt it done well

it was well balanced in terms of action/human interactions
seriously what

There were around 4 action scenes (split up) in a sea of somewhat boring character development.

The Kaiju drift subplot was probably the worst part about the movie. Would have been a much better movie without an explanation of why the Kaiju are even there. When you make a monster movie homage, you're not supposed to care about that stuff. You want to see giant robots beating the stuff out of monsters. I like the scientist characters themselves for their comic relief, but not their significance in the story.

When I heard Hannibal Chau was the Kaiju body parts dealer, I expected some Super Robot-esque stuff where they'd take Kaiju parts and use it to super-power Gipsy Danger or something weird like that. That would have been awesome. Then again, given the timeframe of the actual plot and the part where the Jaeger program was discontinued, that wouldn't have been possible.

I know it was already mentioned that the scientists were the weakest point of the movie, but I didn't really like the way the Pentecost-Mako relationship played out either. Decent concept, not executed very well. Mostly because Pentecost was basically saying "nope something went wrong so I'm going to wait a good half an hour before I let you be useful." Funny thing is, I distinctly remember a line from the trailers where he mentions he's a big believer in second chances, but I don't remember hearing that in the film.

TECHNICALLY they're super robot but it's super forgetin dark super robot

super forgetin' dark super robot is Ideon, not Evangelion.

So the admiral dies. The main guy goes into a chinese girls head. other stuff happens. Also the aliens start flying
:3

I can completely agree. The subplot with the scientists was mediocre at most but at least it wasn't an entirely useless subplot. The character development of the Russian and Chinese mech was pretty much nonexistent. Also the UN in this movie is the dumbest I've seen in a while. No good excuses or statements as to why the Jaeger program should be shut down. Even AFTER the wall got broken through. We never hear from them again.

Thats not to say I didn't enjoy it of course.

I wanted the move though to perhaps have more robots instead of focusing on just 2 after the whole bullstuff that is a first fight scene. I wanted more of a thing where they started out with 12 mechs with developed characters fighting over a period of a few months to where THEN there numbers start to dwindle severely for some good reason.

Instead all we get in the first scenes are

"ogm dah monstas r adapetingngg!!!"

Maybe the movie wouldn't be so watered down (hue) if they hadn't skipped over the fact before the events of the last jaegers that there was actually a JAEGER WAR BETWEEN THE MONSTERS WHEN THEY WERE FIRST BUILT. All we get is a stupid scene of set flashbacks merely giving homage to the idea. The beginning of the movie is basically in all of its essence the END of the movie to where the main characters have been beat down to their last mechs.

seeing the 3d of the movie and the good action which builds up is the only thing that kept it redeemable to me.

im gonna go see fruitvale station at some point.
