Author Topic: The Blockland Theory - A look into the game.  (Read 4912 times)

Next time you want to observe the server list: http://forum.returntoblockland.com/dlm/viewFile.php?id=668

I agree with most of what you said on the ingame community.  Though, to call them simpleminded is a bit much.  The reason I'd join a server with alot of players is the same reason I'd join a crowd of people watching a half-dead cat struggle to reach the other side of the road after getting hit by a car.

It's interesting.

Not to mention there are so many bad, and uninteresting server's up. And, with Badspot's new download system, the time spent trying to load a new server is increased.  Thus, it's just not worth the risk to hop on to some stuffty server I've never heard of before.  I don't like wasting my time.

The forums just need some goddamn moderators.  How many do we have right now, 3?

As far as the future goes I'm not all that worried.  Blockland probably won't get on Greenlight.  But the game itself(or something like it) will keep going.  The game mechanics are just too good to be thrown away.  Hell, I can imagine myself 20 years from now, loading up a Win7 emulator just to build another shack'o'1x1s.  ... Then blowing it up.

Anyhow, Good luck with this stuff VVVVVVVV
Oh no! No one is on blockland because of vacations in the summer and a bunch of people playing their new steam games!
you should work on your grammar

Can I only have the brain? I left my filthy meatsack years ago.
uhh what are you talking about

Yeah, I mostly agree.

Just to be a natzi we actually have two moderators one administrator.

good job you're a rocket scientist

call in tetris to change that logo wtf

to me, this is quiet a stupid topic to begin with, and, frankly, what you're saying isn't going to fix any of this no matter what you do. It isn't Badspot's fault or the developers faults that everybody on this game is a dolt (including me and you and everyone on the forum board) It's just what happens when you have a community of 50000+ players, and even if most of those players have quit this game and moved on, there is still a large amount playing the game and doing stupid stuff on the forums. I know this is your perspective, and I respect that because you have every right to post this topic unless a moderator says otherwise. Now everyone has their own opinions, and I do agree with some of what you said about the forum community; but the ingame players don't know any better. And it doesn't help with all the empty dedicated servers that nobody is joining. Some ingame players don't actually want to join a throwmod or join a family rp, or an "original idea" because some players would only prefer a mini empires or something that is likable to them. Simply put, not everyone is the same or equal and if they want to join Tezuni's jail rp or whatever they can do that because it's a blockland server that is publicly open to all players. Once you're on the bottom, you're always on the bottom is not true, and once you're on top you're always on top is also not true. I can host a server for 20 minutes and after 10 minutes of just me, the server will explode with activity. Recently I have been hosting a medieval siege TDM and I could be at the bottom for a few minutes and then I'll have 16+ players join in a matter of 15 minutes. I have seen servers that were once on top be shut down, never start up again, and then nobody will ever talk about that server ever again. Lugnuts Bluzone RP is an example. It shut down last year or a couple of years ago and I haven't seen a thread or anybody talk about it at all, and it was the #1 server on Blockland that everyone expected was going to be up.

Disagree with me? That's your opinion and I'm not going to hate you just because of that.

A update we really need is a better physics engine for vehicles.

call in tetris to change that logo wtf
yeah the current logo is from one of those free font previews

You're so stupid lol.

This is hardly a look into the game, let alone a theory. This is just a disguised rant about how popular, fun servers get more players than others. Hint: they may actually be some fun to play on. Seriously, if you want to get players make your server have some sort of replay value.

Why should off-topic be forbidden? That's handicapped. It's there because people may not want to discuss Blockland 24/7, per general discussion. You're not making a groundbreaking post by listing out problems that others have many times before you, you pretentious forget.

Also, that logo leads me to believe that you're twelve.

I hate it when people call Help dead. Help is beautifully uncrowded. I can monitor the Help board once a day and never have an unread topic go to the second page. Most help topics can be solved by just one competent reply. The Help topics that require more work are usually unmolested by the majority and are just conversations between the people who know what they are doing and the people who need help. Basically, the reason Help seems to be dead is because it is effectively and relatively idiot-free.

Ya know what? I'll be perfectly honest, your right. You pissed off me and countless others beyond belief but there is some truth to what your saying. The forums are hell for the most part but that's not what I'm pissed about. But i want to start off by saying that you didn't "bash" blockland, you "bashed" it's community which is a BAAAD idea. I've done the WIP test many times and you know what? same thing happened. People joined asking where the build was. But ya know what else? I asked them if they know what WIP means. They all, every single one, said no. Accept for a couple who came saying they wanted to help. When i told them ("WIP means Work In Progress, It's not done yet and not ready to be played") almost all of them left accept for a few who stayed and freebuilt. You have to keep in mind that a lot of the community lately, not all but a lot, are kids and they've just never heard some text whatchamacallits before like WIP. Now moving on to the "top" servers. Again, right, most of the time its the servers with the most people that, in turn, get the most people. First of all you can't just go and say that that's what everyone does because i don't do that at all. I go to the servers with one or two people in them because i feel bad for them because they have noone to play blockland with on there servers, and there almost always happy i came to keep them company. Second of all, building on what i said before, of course the more populated servers get more people! Because people don't want to be alone! They want to be with other people, and where in blockland is better to do that than in a popular server! It's basic human nature to want to be with other people, because back in the caveman days, say someones taking on a wolf. Alone, there screwed, but with alot of people, they'll beat that wolf with ease. That instinct to stay around other people remained in our DNA and we still feel that we have to be around other people today, not everyone, but most people. Not to mencion we also have an instinct to conform, do what everyone is doing so we don't feel like outcasts, so we feel like we fit in and are accepted, because i don't care who you are, deep down inside you do want to feel accepted and loved. And if your going to insult people for that, go to hell. But at the same time, like i said, there is truth to what you said, despite that instinct to be around others, conform, and feel accepted and loved, all of us, as a community, need to go to that server with noone in it or just one or two or a few people in it. Make them feel important, make them feel loved.

Give it a try, you might like it.

I browse help from time to time and give people answers.
It's just most of the questions are above my head.

Ok first what the hell is this stuff? You trying to be the new Steven hawking? no.
"Servers not get 2 many pep because tenuzni"
The key to getting people is:
A: Good administration.
B: A good game for one, and not some crap rp or freebuild.
C: Inspiring builds, making players go wow.
D: Something fun for everyone, meaning people on the server should all be happy unless 'richard pictures'

Blockland is not missing any of its players, sure they're vacationing or what not but its the steam thing or some stuff.
Its not capitalist and no one follows no one. You don't have to listen to anyone, the least they can do is ban you. Boohoo you got banned, so what? Its a ban live with It.
Your whole 'theory' is false but some of the statements you picked out are fascinating. Not only do you describe Blockland as a raging pisshouse but you intentionally bash it when you said you weren't.

you intentionally bashed it when you said you weren't
/support

The ingame community's majority is painfully simpleminded. They join only the servers with the most players (tezuni, cough cough) and nothing else. This blocks new servers from being created, and new ideas surviving more then twenty minutes. Basically, if you are at the top, your going to stay at the top. If your at the bottom, your going to be there for quite some time.
1.) Do you have some issue with Tezuni?
2.) Is said issue in direct correlation with the 16k refund you begged and begged for on City?
3.) I think this is mostly false.
If you have a good server, the players worth having will find it. Having the top server means nothing but you are at the top, and your server is probably full of noobs that GO to the top server. Noobs you now have too deal with.

Proof? You hosted this slave server. Honestly, the random servers like those are the most fun. You were a good admin, kept it goin, you got more players.

Good servers get players, some servers are just too complicated.

Yorktown's was anticipated for weeks, and idk if its see a player since I checked on my house 2 weeks ago.
DrenDren's went the same way. He overcomplicated, and kurplunk, it died too.

Wonder why new servers aren't getting created/joined?

Because the popular servers are actually FUN.

You see you get a lot of players when you have something interesting or fun.

John328328's freebuild (pls come) isn't fun or interesting.

Tezuni's Jail RP is interesting to some people so they play it. Other people see 'hey, people are here, gonna join to see what's so fun'
