Author Topic: How to find musician friends?  (Read 2403 times)

I've been lonely too long. I have half an hour sessions with a guitar instructor who is quite honestly pretty awesome. We just basically jam for the whole time while he teaches me theory, like how to mix different types of scales and such, but I have no one to just go over and jam with for any decent amount of time. I had a friend who played drums, but he had to pack it up because his parents needed space for stuff, and I know this other guy who plays paino/keyboard but I'm not sure if he knows theory. I'd really like to play some funk/psychedelic rock with some people but I have no where to turn. I also play bass so I am flexible. It's just a matter of locating people.

Ask if the pianist knows theory? Typically pianists know theory, if not a lot, at least some.

Join a group? My city has the Uptown Music Collective. I've worked with them before, and they're all douches, but I'm sure there must be a similar group, unless you live in Nowheresville, PA.

if there's a marching band in your school, befriend them.

I have a music school in my area so I've met a lot of people taking lessons there.
Knowledge of theory is good but not entirely necessary.

Idk how you could really find people tho

Not sure if that's where to look for psychadelic rock or funk

Most people at my schools are rappers or in metal bands :(
I actually know a cool dude who makes electronic stuff like me tho.

I'm currently in a group, but this will be my last session. The whole concept of being given songs to replicate is pretty boring, And the concept of a jam, pick a key and play, is a lot more fun for me and I actually find that I play better when I'm playing with other people.
