Author Topic: Why do people hate camping? (Defensively and Effectively)  (Read 3981 times)

I know a great weapon that has been around for hundreds of years that is in every Call of Duty, Battlefield, and most shooters. The hand grenade, pull the pin on that bad boy and let it cook and that guy around the corner will be gone. Alternatively you should that spot where people camp. If the terrain is destructible fire a missile at his cover or something.

they hate it because it kills them and they are too stupid to counter it or the game mechanics make it a better strategy than what they are currently doing

It depends on the game.
In some games, camping makes a very easy way to kill people without them getting a chance to fight back.
For example, Call of Duty and Battlefield have guns and health-systems that mean you only need to shoot at someone a little bit and they die.

Which basically means that you piss off everyone because they have no chance to defend themselves, if you're hidden in a corner and can shoot and kill before they can even turn around.

On other games, like Halo, weapons are slightly less effective and things like Shields mean that it's much harder for someone to just kill anyone who enters a room solely by catching them by surprise.
It's much easier for someone who is surprised by a camper to turn the tide of battle and overcome them using other tactics.

I personally don't agree that Snipers should be punished for Camping, because that is what a Sniper does. They don't run around on the ground taking pot-shots at people.
If there is a sniper who is in a defensive position and he is dominating the enemy, then it's up to the enemy to attempt to eliminate him, either through means of their own sniping weapons, or through explosives, such as tanks, rockets or grenades.
If the game doesn't provide any sort of aid against snipers, then the game is poorly designed, and those people playing naturally as a sniper end up being unfairly punished and labelled as a camper.

For comparison, you don't often hear of the Sniper Class being considered a Camper in Team Fortress 2, primarily because the opposition always has access to sniping weapons by having one of their team take up the role of sniper.

Also, yes, ha ha.
We get that Camping has another meaning outside of games.
It was funny the first time, you're simply being anoying and stuff-posting off-topic now.

A good sniper doesn't camp. They shoot and scoot. The issue is that games have smaller maps or maps with only one place to snipe from, so the snipers are forced to camp if they want to be effective at all.

I say we just charge the snipers with machine guns, it's what Animal Mother would have wanted.

the answer to all of your problems is to increase player run speed across the board and make rocket launchers the mainstay weapons so that anyone trying to camp gets wrecked.

on that note, Rise of the Triad is going to be fast as hell in an attempt to bring back the Quake/Unreal formula.

It's fine if it's in something like Counter-Strike, that's how it's played.  But really, in deathmatch it doesn't accomplish anything, and what's the fun of sitting around in the video game you're sitting around and playing?

Because of Kalphiter and the default tank.

Because of Kalphiter and the default tank.
oh god i remember that topic

Camping stagnates gameplay and is a tactic that is enfuriating due to its simplicity, effectiveness, and how boring it is. You feel terrible when you get killed by someone whose idea of having fun is sitting in one spot and in the game sitting in one spot, waiting for a moment of success.

I camp in bushes in Contract Wars, I just hide in bushes and kill people with my Raging Judge.
