Author Topic: Are We Still Using That Old Engine?  (Read 6662 times)

blockland is a highly modified version of torque, been the same for years

I didn't read all the reply's but,

Could we ever have the possibility to switch? I mean is the superior engine 'out there'?
Not hating on torque its just that there are many bugs or limitations. (intel cards, weird vehicle physics, freefalling speeds are bugged with other players)

Badspot has the engine source code, so he can do whatever he wants with it. I have a feeling he I'd working on vehicles.

this just in, greek is badspot's undercover persona

It's a simple question and you're a smart guy, you don't have to be an starfish about it.

I myself am for a new engine, but I mean converting the game probably would be too hard for just Badspot to do it.

Naw, I thought he was talking about mods or something, and by using the phrase "are there still many possibilities we can make" assumes that the answer is basically no until proven otherwise.

Well, if Badspot would be up for it, which I can almost guarantee is an instant no, the absolute best option for optimization would be to not base it upon an engine at all, and just code it completely from the ground up.

However, that would take a ridiculous amount of time.

Badspot deserves way more money. Look at Notch, he's a loving millionaire and all he did was make an unstable game with Java and buy McDonalds every day.

bad spot quote that I can't search easily while on my phone.

"v0002 was a mod of the torque engine, while Blockland is a game made using torque"

To be fair, Badspot benefited somewhat from using a superior engine (that Minecraft should've looked to as a well-designedengine).

I dont mean to necro my own thread (i just have been unavailable for a while) but is badspot just working by himself? (I know notch doesnt)

No, he's got kompressor.
Also, notch basically retired 2 years ago.

It's the same as both of those, and AoTas well.

What does AoT stand for?

Porting Blockland to another engine could be possible, but it will take a loooong time.

What if Badspot makes alot of small updates, until he makes that really big update related with performance and graphics, aswell as gameplay?

I can imagine how weird it would look if Blockland was run on something like Source, CryEngine, or even the Unity eng-

No, scratch the changing engine thing, probably is best to improve as much as possible the Blockland Torque engine, and we will just need to wait to see what happens in the future.
