Author Topic: whats with all these cryptic ARG topics  (Read 4374 times)

seriously they're not unique

if you don't get what i'm talking about, about a month ago Mura made a topic named "sOMe cool pIcTures i found online". It contained 3 images and a file containing some stuff. everyone started going haywire and decoding and solving the mystery like it was a copy of swordquest. the topic ended up getting 101 pages (around 90 too many), and Cassord bumped it yesterday. it died almost a month ago it didn't need to be revived.

today, people are jumping into this fad and trying to be hip and trendy. it's getting old we don't need more. i get that this is off-topic, but these topics are basically asking for attention.

Beat me making the thread

anyways /support

mura made a good topic, it was something new and everyone enjoyed it, saying it didn't deserve 100 pages is stupid, it was a unique idea.

however turning it into a trend is annoying

Yeah, this is about it.
Making an ARG topic once and a while is alright, but having a couple everyday is going to ruin the whole idea.

Stop already. I hope Badspot starts banning people who keep saying "/support" and not contributing to anything else.

Anyway these cryptic threads are fun if done correctly. I mean it's sort of a community interaction game.  I don't understand what you mean by;
hip and trendy
Hip? What? Trendy? Sure, whatever. It can be fun like I've said if done correctly. I agree that the ones that are like this; http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=237675.0 are stupid, but ones that are like this; http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=237655.0 are actually fun. You can just avoid these threads if you don't like them though.

mura's was cool because it wasn't a blatant "LOL START DECRYPTING FUN TIMES LOLOLOLEL INSERT COMMAND"

at first it looked like a stupid topic. then everyone started noticing strange subliminal messages and stuff.

It was disguised. It was cool, it was mysterious. ">input command xP" Is none of those things, it's stupid, boring and forced.

what the forget is he suppose to contribute, he was simply saying that he supports my general opinion.

I jokingly used those words to describe unnecessary entries into a fad.

I can agree with this. the terminal style of ARGs belong in Community Projects, if not nowhere

if you want to make a good ARG you have to be subtle, in character, and generally straightforward.

Mura makes an ARG: "You dumbasses need to make more of these! They are fun!"

Two others make their own ARG's: "GAH! loving stop it with these! You are loving stupid and unoriginal!"

You people are really bitter and hypocritical.

mura did his right, it wasn't even seen as an arg at the beginning, it was unique

not to mention blf has a long standing habit of turning anything fun and unique into fads, most of us who have been a while get annoyed when a fun topic shows up then a week later 3-4 half assed versions of that same idea come out

what the forget is he suppose to contribute, he was simply saying that he supports my general opinion.
No one needs to know that he read your thread and agrees to it. If he has nothing to add, he shouldn't post. It's just spam at this point.

Whatever, something is not a fad unless there's entries into it anyway.

Maxx's was just bad

it was literally "Guess the password"

Mura's got a little boring though tbh
