you know what, in my opinion, would be cool ..

think, lego starwars, lego indiana jones, lego batman, etc ...

that style of gameplay. make it an MMO. make it so you can level up. make studs a currency. have unlockable characters or classes or something .. have lego city as a hub, have a big world with lego mobs in it .. and then dungeons would be levels from the games.

just an idea ...
add the lego city undercover into the mix for the open world and then make the lego combat better (seriously this would improve the lego games so much) and you've got a great idea there

But if it was done like this, should we still have that feature from LU where we can have completely customized structures and objects in our own area?

you could have your own building plot/space to build whatever you want

I don't know dude. Lego Universe was pretty fun to me. It was pretty close to awesome in my opinion.

Man if Lego Universe was a one-time payment only like Blockland is, I believe that it would still survive until this day

Yes, so much yes.

No it wouldn't.  How would they keep the servers up?

LEGO could probably make money if they actually make a sandbox game where you can build stuff from buildings to various vehicles. Those lego starwars/bioncle type games aren't helping them at all.

How do you think many online games keep their servers up? So long as people keep purchasing the game the servers are easily afforded. The reason people think it might have lasted longer is because more people buy one time games than subscription service games.

Well subscriptions allow some profit to come in, but most of it is used for keeping the servers going. The F2P model appeals to kids who are either too cheap and lazy to fork 20 bucks on a game, or people who can some how afford a nice computer, but not a game. So you have that item market whcuch sells skins and stuff which keeps the game going. Also with advertising the company that runs the game gets paid for each person that gets bombed with adds. So lots of cheapskates + ads = money = game living.

or you could just make it singleplayer, with the option to join a hosted multiplayer game. that way you don't really have to pay to host large servers. It's probably not as fun, but it is cheaper to operate.

but I don't really know anything about running a company so w/e

None of them do though.  I'm talking about MMOs, because they relies on microtransactions and subscriptions.  MMO servers take a lot more work than any other game.

The reason why lego "MMO's" fail is because they're "MMO's". They should be "MMORPG's".

I played LU in beta, and I didn't see it dying like this.

I didn't play enough of it to predict it I guess.
