Author Topic: YouTube Videos Offset - Help with YouTube?  (Read 4505 times)

The past few days, I've noticed YouTube videos are offset. The video portion is shifted down slightly under the control bar. The strangest part is the control bar is actually slightly transparent, so I can actively see this problem and not just guess it is cut. Another confirmation is the black area above the video. Simply, the video is offset within the player. I tried to look up the error, but apparently I'm one of the few having it. I have checked on Internet Explorer and the problem also occurs there. Here are examples with and without pointing out the errors so you can see it clearly:

I have an add-on in Firefox which lets me edit flash elements live. I used it on the YouTube player and found that the video portion literally had a Y value of 15, shifting it down by 15 units. I could manually change this value back, but it resets the video and any changing of video time shifts it back, so this isn't a possible solution. I did consider this add-on might be causing the problem - you install Flash's default debugging tools to make it work, perhaps there's an error in recent versions - But I already uninstalled it along with flash (because it makes you do both) and just having normal flash, the above still occurs.

Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? How I can fix it?

If your browser supports it, "enter" the beta.

I'm going to take a guess that there is some sort of setting not being reset. What OS do you have?

I have tried that, but HTML5 isn't universal on Firefox and Opera. If the video doesn't come in WebM format, it uses the default player.

Two people on Steam just told me they also have this, which is perplexing because I spent an hour Googling various combinations of "YouTube" "offset" "shifted" "video" "support" etc. within recent times, pushing off the crap results. In that, I found no other reports, so I thought this was a more isolated problem. Is this just part of all the screwiness YouTube has had lately?

"the video may look off-center if you're on a pc, it's a weird thing youtube's doing to everyone's videos right now"

from a popular youtube channel. basically youtube is loving stuff up again so just let it pass

Same thing happening to me. loving annoying.

Hmm, it's weird I didn't see it turn up in more places.

Well, right now there is also a problem with videos played from a playlist. The mini playlist on the right extends under the bottom spacer bar, so you can't click the down arrow - you HAVE to use the overly-scrolling scroll wheel to do it.

I would like to this thread with this
how can I remove this stupid piece of stuff

Another bug I've been encountering is that when I click "Show the comment" on a reply, the reply turns into a big, white space.

I loving hate that.

Even if youtube changes one colour on their site the whole thing breaks. I swear, these guys do this on purpose just to occupy themselves

I just got a new development in this: I loaded up this video, and it is definitely in the Flash Player. Now the video doesn't appear offset from the top, but the controls are still overlapping the video, now fully instead of partially. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcL1xQWQce8

So basically, instead of the video being offset, now the control bar is not being offset beneath it. I suspect they are trying to add some fanciness where the control bar hides away even in the small player, but are testing it live like morons. I don't even want a feature like that...

I've had this, too. Clicking the dropdown button for Share and Report or whatever brings the command back, but it's strange, especially when that stupid button isn't always visible.
