Author Topic: What would be a cheap video card that would run shaders?  (Read 1174 times)

Depends on how cheap you are looking for, i'd suggest getting one which would work for more games than just Blockland.
If you are in the US, check sites like newegg.
If you are in the UK, try ebuyer or overclockers.
AMD cards tend to be lower in price but it honestly depends on what card you are going for.

If you could give a rough budget, I'll find one for you.

It would be nice if I could get a $10-$20 one.

That probably will not happen.  Even if you do get a somewhat cheap graphics card that can run shaders, I would highly doubt you would get decent FPS.  There are many somewhat cheap graphics cards that can run shaders, but they do not do it very well.  If you want to run shaders, I can almost guarantee that you will not get it cheap.

I'm pretty sure that a $30 or $40 one will work fine. You have to do some research, though.

That's a super cheap price for a graphics card, like greek2me said, $30-$40 would be a better starter price to invest in one.
HIS ATI Radeon HD 5450 is around $35, which would run shaders okay-ish, I can't really guarantee how it would perform on your machine since I don't know what your processor is, your RAM or even your motherboard.

can you give us your current specs?

Are you loving serious. What.

Sorry, your going to have to invest at least 5 times that for semi-decent shaders. A Geforce G210 is very cheap (~$30ish) but it won't run shaders without the frame rate being under 5 on max with a build of only 9000 bricks. If you want a fast, quality graphics card, your going to have to pay plenty more. Since people want fast graphics, graphics cards tend to be a decently large part of a computer build money wise.

That's complete garbage.

Let's clear this up for op:
Video cards costs hundreds of dollars.

AMD 6670 is pretty good I believe, this card is $70 though.

If you want a fast video card, get a GTX 760. I'm sure that card would run shaders fine. (It's ~$220 at the time of this post) "You get what you pay for" pretty much applies for most video cards until the upper tiers of cards, where cards tend to be less cost effective.
