Author Topic: Because I can't spend money online...  (Read 4594 times)

...

How? I can't just leave and go buy something without being questioned, I can't drive yet, and I almost never go to the store unless I'm with my parent(s) anyway. Trust me, I'd love to just buy a gift card. But it just isn't as simple as you're making it sound. My mom gets mad at me when I'm on the computer for more than two hours a day, for crying out loud. I don't even get to watch tv, so I have to do it on my iPod in bed at night. This "simple task" really isn't as simple as you seem to think. What's the point of buying a gift card in the first place if I get grounded from videogames?
Once you are at the store, say you need to get something for a friend. You buy the thing for your friend AND a gift card "for your friend" that is a visa debit card pre-paid that is 10 bucks.

FOOL PROOF.

Okay, you win.

You're legit. I'm sorry you have to go through so much strict parenting.
If I didn't just pay my rent today I would buy you GMOD right now.

If no one has gotten you it by the 15th (My next payday) ill give you a copy.
Thanks. Overmind already offered, but he's trying to recover his hijacked account at the moment. Does this make it a race?
Joking, obviously.

Also, Pandan, sorry if I seemed a bit harsh when I was trying to convince you I am my age. Really, you had every right to believe that I wasn't 17 because, frankly, this is the internet, and it can be hard to believe people sometimes, especially in circumstances like this. Once again, sorry about that.

Also, I'd just like to clear this up; I don't necessarily dislike the way my parents parent me; in most cases, their strictness is appreciated. This may sound a bit weird to some of you, but the truth is, without the discipline given to me, who knows how much trouble I could've gotten into over the years, what bad company I could've been with, and so on. Really, my only issue is computer related things. Not only are they a little more restrictive than I may like in terms of video games (which I understand, to a degree), but I often have to compromise video game time to do things that will further me into my career, such as video making, electronic music creation, and other forms of digital media manipulation. Often, I don't even have enough time to do those things either. I'm saying this so nobody has any misconceptions about me and my family.

And one more thing; it is possible to have a PayPal before you turn 18; I do, it's just a student account, which is linked to my parents' account.

No need for the fancy reply, but Ill keep my word regardless!

You're a cool dude, I wish more people on here were like you.

Can't you just give your friend 30 bucks and get them to buy a steam card?

Edit: Or was this already suggested and denied?

No, it wasn't suggested, but I really don't even know of any of my friends who have Steam (possibly one or two), and I don't need quite $30 in my Steam wallet. That probably could work, but I'd really prefer to not have my friends do my "dirty work" for me, so to speak. Pretty much all of my friends moms and mine are pretty closely connected as well anyway, so info doesn't take long to get around. And, while I'm pretty careful myself, especially when it comes to covering my tracks, I'm not sure how well certain friends would do in that area. Basically, it'd be risky.

Er, sorry about that. I just know how easy it is to be misunderstood online, and I guess I just like to get my point across. But yeah, I should work on shortening my replies some... (Also, I just realized; that type of reply is not fancy for me. I just have developed the habit of maintaining 100% correct grammar everywhere at all times. However... is that a bad thing online? I really hope it's not, because I'd have a mightily hard time changing it... >_< )

Anywho, thanks again. Same goes for you (as in, you're a cool guy); I wish there were just a few more people on the forum who are at least willing to give people a stab at something before denouncing them as worthless.

Man, i really would if i had the money, most times my parents are strict to me but then they act like slaves to my brother..

My question is what you're going to do once you get the game?

If your parents are this strict, and your computer time is limited so heavily, how are you going to A) find any time to play it and B) explain to your parents how/where you got it when they inevitably see you playing it?

Tell them its a free game or something maybe

Hehe... Glad you asked.

See, I've already done this for free games in the past, so I have gotten pretty good at a few things:

- Knowing when and when not to play, and being very discreet about doing so.
- Knowing when someone is coming in the room by keeping the volume low and staying attentive.
- Knowing how to quickly switch desktops/applications when I do hear someone approaching.

In terms of timing, my parents usually watch TV while I'm on the computer, which is a room and part of a hallway away from where I sit. Also, sometimes both my parents are gone from the house. Basically, I'm just a very cautious person overall, just not visibly cautious. I've even learned where most of the squeaky spots in the house are and nearly perfected coming up our super creaky stairs almost completely silently to avoid being scolded for going to bed too late (often a result of me getting caught up on the BL forums...)

Also, they don't know what it is; if worst comes to worst, I'll just tell them it's some weird game I found, "delete" it, and then remove from trash/re-download it later.

you're like a teenaged rebellious ninja

I never thought of it that way. I don't care for the rebellious part, but it's unfortunately true.

I AM A MONSTER. D:

Nah man with parents like that you deserve to be rebellious

Lol, I was just joking. XD

I don't do credit cards. Ugh. One of the leading causes of debt in America? No thanks. I can do the same stuff with a debit card. However, my debit is linked to my Paypal, which is a student account, so my parents can see all activity on it.
Get a debit card then. Basically just a card that pays out directly from a bank account. All you have to do is keep like $100 or more in the account to avoid penalties.

Man, I do the same thing even though my parents don't give a stuff about what I do. When opening doors that are bound to squeak you can apply an upward/downward pressure from to the knob, 95% of the time it pretty well completely eliminates the squeak!
