Author Topic: Mafia Madness Servers  (Read 10840 times)

You people do realize I was exaggerating the Harvard graduate thing, right?

I never though something like that would go over everyone's heads lol

That wasn't sarcasm. That was the main problem with Mafia Madness for me.

The main problem with Mafia Madness to you is that you have to be patient to play it?

I hosted a MafMadness server, and I admit I did a few things in the OP -- unnecessary eval forgetery, very high max-players count (iirc the players peaked at 26 or 22, no idea how I was able to moderate that), and I once accidently admin orbed outside the afterlife like a moron.

I'll take these into account if I feel like hosting this again.

Let me put an example:

I join a Mafia Madness server. I used the command to look at the rules. The entire rules page consists of more commands to type in, as well as the entire thing fills up the entire chatlog to the point where I had to page up to see what else there were. I decide to read the rules, but most of the time the text is interrupted repeatedly by someone chatting in the server or something is going on in the event. I gave up due to the fact that I had to battle the chatlog using Page Up and Down, and honestly, I would end up forgetting parts of the rules already due to extent size.

A topic about Mafia Madness, including the rules, would be nice because I would have a reference I could view without any trouble, but since the creator is apparently lazy as well, I'm stuck telling people to temporarily shut the forget up so I could read the rules and potentially have a good time with the game.

Seriously, it's just a Blockland gamemode; it doesn't need to be that complicated.

I see what you mean, but even here there are things you can do to make it easier on yourself. For one, you can type in each section "/rules 1", "/rules 2", and so on until you have typed in every one. Then, leave the server and join an empty server or your own server, then page-up and read it all.

I have been thinking about making a topic that lay out the rules better.

MM is not easy to host. If you can't host it, don't. Don't make it dedicated, and don't change anything about it unless you know what you're doing. If it were possible to make an automated administration system, we would have. In fact, we sat around for at least an hour thinking of how it could be done. There's not a good way to do it. If you aren't willing to read the rules, go away. If you're not willing to play well, get out.

Here's SpeedBlade's server:

Triple post! Here's SpeedBlade freezing a player.

The best part about those pictures is that SpeedBlade previously said that I am 'known for abusing my power' on servers. What a god damn hypocrite lol

God damn. And I thought it actually meant something that I was entrusted as a moderator on his server.

Here is a long list of things that I have seen hosts and/or admins do that ruin the game:

#1: Hosting Mafia Madness on a map other than the default Pyramid.
/support
#2: Screwing with the environment.
/support
#3: Host and/or admins messing around outside of the minigame (or when they are dead).
/support
#4: Messing with the MM "locations".
/support
#5: Placing lights.
/support
#7: Host and/or admins messing around or spamming with eval.

#8 Hosting a dedicated MM server.
/support
#9 Host and/or admins not knowing the rules themselves.
/support
#10: Starting the round too quickly and not asking people to read the rules.
/support
#11:[/b] Setting the player limit too high.
/support
#12: Banning players without asking for their side of the story.

#6: Make designated body piles.
Now the body piles like "cops" "admins" and other things are a nono
however, I like having a place  too put all the dead.
If we have one body pile stuff like this can happen:

Pile of Bodies by TomTom's Server Artist TDcoolguy is an interpretive statue of dead bodies.
The 10+ tier tower was skillfully crafted by a jetless player during TomTom's Mafia Madness mini-game.
Unfortunately, however, TDcoolguy fell from the tower and died shortly after completeion, allowing the mafia too win the round.

but you DON'T HAVE to do that
how come you HAVE TO DO THAT
you can spread bodies, that's UNNECESSARY

it should not qualify to be a reason for other body piles

IT IS UNNECESSARY

You don't HAVE too.
You NEVER have too.
But having a place (designated by the players or the build) is good for game-play.
It helps with identifying n stuff, and finding the mafia and head counts.
