Author Topic: Made some music visualizers, are they cool?  (Read 1360 times)

My most recent one was for Sigatrev by The BoxX:

And one for Vertex + i by D VOR ZZ-Type:

I need to know your opinions because these are my first few works with Adobe After Effects CS6, and I want to know if any of these need some improving on.

Post the good or bad if you want, and thanks for the opinions if you do post.

The Sigatrev visualizer is pretty great, just that it didn't compliment the song very well, as the song wasn't very "exciting". Perhaps a better idea for a song like that would be some sort of 8-bit-themed visualizer?

As for the visualizer of Vertex +i, I was sort of amazed when I saw it. Great work in general there. A couple of things:
  • It's usually bad practice to have the visualizer extend beyond the bounds of the window. Tone that down a bit.
  • Choose a lower, shorter frequency range, as getting higher frequencies usually results in a visualizer that's too active.
  • When you have a left-to-right layout like that, using rotational symmetry (flipping it 180 degrees) is usually a bad idea, and just using one, unreflected waveform, or just one kind of symmetry (horizontal, vertical, not both) would be a better option.

1. Yeah, on the Sigatrev one I wasn't that good at making something 8-bit themed, so I just thought of that.
2. I didn't think it was going to jump up THAT high. Honestly, I would've toned it down in that situation.
3. If you mean frequency bands, I could. If it's another thing, I could try and fix that to.
4. Someone said it was good, but I really don't know.

Thanks for the opinions! ^^

get a trapcode form plugin, and try something out like this

Sorry for the bump/necro (if this is a necro), but I've made a super cool visualizer, this time using flares and a cool watermark by me!

Go check it out and give me all your opinions!

bump since it got lost in a sea of posts.

You don't have to be a expert, just tell me what you think!

I liked that one, although the fact that they were offset from each other bugged me

Exactly this

why would you make a music visualizer with After Effects
wat

Why wouldn't you, if it's for YouTube?

it seems generic, try adding a background to it, lower the end frequency, add more bars.

...What would you use?

...What would you use?

Any programming language that can either display windows or output video files of some format?

Yes this is easier and less of a hassle. Just detect the frequencies for each bar and make it go up once that frequency plays.

As fun to do as that is, more times than not it's a waste of time when you already have hundreds of channels out there with a format that easy to use and work with, and is familiar to viewers.

Different isn't always best.
