Today one of my try-hard managers pissed me off to the point that I was done taking her stuff. I gave her a two-week notice that I was quitting on the spot because she decided to write me up for doing my job "poorly" that day when just an hour before, I had requested to go home early because I told my current shift manager that I was ill and it was affecting my work-ability.
According to the handbook, you are to report to a manager when feeling sick if it might affect your work which is exactly what I did. You've got the right to request to go home if you're ill to that point. That request isn't supposed to be rejected when you're claiming you're sick. I believe that that rule should be more strictly adhered to for minors as well.
Anyway, she denied my request to leave because apparently, putting fries in a box is a critical position in the store. Truth is, they're all just too lazy to do it so they make me do it all. I've been on fries for about four months now without a single new position to work at. I'd walk into work and immediately walk to fries; not even having to ask where I'm to work for the day.
She bitched at me several times that day for not doing my job right (I.E. Forgetting to put my gloves on before making fries, which by the way, isn't required of anyone else but me for some odd reason). Now, the reason I was fed up with all of it was because from the moment I started that job, this manager has been a pain in my side from the beginning. My employer told me to ask lots of questions when I need to — so I did. This manager was around for most of my beginning shifts and every time I became confused such as the times I'd ask where I'd find a certain item in the back, she'd get annoyed and start making rude remarks and claimed that "I can't hold your hand, you're a big boy now."
Erm, I don't remember reading a part of the handbook that showed the entire store's stock locations. Why was I expected to know where to find these things? Also, they weren't even difficult questions. I asked "What row can I find the fry boxes?" once, and she literally replied with "O M G, (yes, literally the letters) can't you find it yourself?!" Or something relevant to that. I just remember the "OMG" part, lol.
Anyway, she's been absolutely no help to me ever since I started working and I've also had numerous complaints about her from my co-workers who have had to deal with her. Today, I decided to confront her when she decided to write me up. I started off with "Hold on" when she put the paper in front of me and she said "Come on, it's not that hard to read." Like, what the forget, that wasn't even what I was going to say? Anyway, I told her that I was giving a two weeks notice and that I was quitting because I was tired of her disrespect and the disrespect from among a few others in the restaurant. She had a really arrogant brief laugh and replied with "That won't make a difference." Like I give a stuff if I was written up, I had given her the notice according to the handbook that my illness was affecting my work and she ignored it. That's on her head, not mine.
I barely scribbled my signature on the paper and I asked her what time she was getting off so I could have a little "chat" with her when I got home. Basically, I wanted to give her a piece of my loving mind, but she decided that she would be a richard and she walked up front and started laughing and talking with some of my co-workers up front that I threatened to quit. I overheard her and I said "What's so funny?"
She was like "That you gave a two-week's notice." I cut her off and said "You think that's funny?" she said "Actually, I do." I said "You know what's funny? You're supposed to be a manager and you didn't even know where the burn cream was when I received a serious burn from the oven. You didn't even know there WAS a first-aid kit in the office." She got butthurt and was like "Just focus on your work for the rest of your shift, please."
I eventually had a chat with her afterwards because she refused to talk to me over the phone where I was going to (privately) describe to her the problems I had with her, but she was an idiot and violated my privacy rights of having a discussion with a manager and went and told everybody I was planning to quit. That's not really a big deal but it pissed me off so I called her out in front of everyone as well. lol
Anyway, this chat we had consisted of her calling me a liar when I told her that she had been disrespectful to me from the very beginning. Eventually it calmed down and she started pulling excuses from her starfish trying to get me to rage less. I just kinda gave up because it was like talking to a brick wall. Later she talked to my brother (which is also in violation of some code, I'm pretty sure) about the private talk I had with her. Reason I said it was in violation of some privacy code was because my brother and I are to be treated as separate employees. You're not supposed to talk to someone about something personal and then go tell another employee when it's none of their business, am I right?
Basically, my dad's a legal freak and when I told him about this, he was basically calling it a case of discrimination and that she's way too immature for her position and that she had violated many of my civil rights and stuff.
I mean, I wouldn't pass it off lightly, I could probably get her fired (or at least punished somehow) for this incident because the franchise owner is pretty chill and takes everything very seriously. But my dad wants me to pursue getting her fired and it's making me a bit uncomfortable. I have to work there for two more weeks for the sake of looking good when applying to my next job because if I quit randomly, that won't look so good. I've had my ups and downs with this woman but overall, she's a total bitch and I'm sick of it. I'm not going to do nothing about it, but I don't want to go as far as getting somebody fired.
She's fairly new to the management position which I found out today from my brother. So that explains why she's a super try-hard and carries the attitude of being the "toughest manager", directly quoted from her words, and acting extremely arrogant in everything she does. Honest to loving God, it does nothing for me when I'm bitched at instead of encouraged.
Also, I've been stuck on fries for 4 months because apparently I haven't "mastered" the position. Tell me, what's there to master about putting a basket of fries into a vat, timing it correctly, making the right amount, and then boxing them?
Apparently, around the time I was hired, I went under a training system that the old general manager set up. Now that the old one has transferred to a different store, we go under a new training system that doesn't require you to "master" fries first. Even though the new training system is in order, I, apparently, still have to do the original just because that's when I joined. What makes them think I won't do better in a different position? What the forget. On another note: I'm the ONLY one still undergoing this "training" method when I've been working at McDonald's for four goddamn months now. I already "mastered" whatever there is to master with fries and they still won't acknowledge that. Actually, the new general manager did and promised to train me on something else now, but he's never there when I'm at work — so.. forget.
My father wants me to write a legal document dating the time and day of the incident so that it could be reported to the owner of the restaurant (it's a private McDonald's).
Anyway, I was posting this because I wanted to hear your opinions. Am I a victim of discrimination and should I take this to the owner? Or should I just peacefully quit and ignore the situation after having a talk with my general manager about it?
Also, please, for the love of God, no "you should be grateful for even having a job you ungrateful twat hruHURhfhsafhusahdf!!!" I've worked for what seems like an endless four months at a job where I'm constantly treated like stuff by my co-workers for only $7.50 an hour and I'm just tired of it. My services could be useful elsewhere for an even better pay. I'm looking into Marsh right now, actually. At my current job, I don't get nearly enough hours even though I'm allowed to work 40 hours in a week, but I only work around 9-12 hours a week now. That's not enough to pay for a car when I eventually need one.
Anyway, discuss.
