Author Topic: Florida executes a diagnosed mentally ill killer  (Read 2294 times)

"sorry I killed all 8 of your family members, I was ~insane~, no hard feelings tho xD"
Because that's how schizophrenics feel about it? lolno.

Quote
In a last-ditch attempt to block the execution, Ferguson’s legal team appealed to the nation’s highest court. His lawyers argued executing Ferguson, who has suffered from a long history of severe mental illness, violates the Eighth Amendment’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment. Ferguson believed that he was a “Prince of God” and, upon his death, would rise up to save Americans from a communist plot.

And if it was your son? Your mother? "BUT I WAS INSANE" would be enough for you to forgive him?

I don't understand an ounce of that logic.

I wonder if they can try and turn this one into a case about race too. Also he killed these people shortly after being released from a mental institute. Apparently they thought he was sane enough. Guess not.

By reason of insanity, no. Have you read how severe his condition is?
One can "read" about a condition. But it doesn't make it true.

I have no stance on this. I don't know if he was actually mentally ill or just trying to protect him self from the state as an excuse. Whatever it was the moral implications will probably be argued as usual.

The family of the killer, or the killer himself should've got him some kind of medical assistance.

It was deserved.

Yes, why waste effort on him though? There's many mentally ill people out there who can know not to kill someone. Why couldn't he know?

And if it was your son?
I personally wouldn't want him murdered. I don't believe in an eye for an eye completely.
I would never wish death on someone as death is what I fear the most myself.

Because he was mentally ill. People's brains work differently.

8 deaths?
2 of them being TEENAGERS?

I'm sorry, but if that happened, he would still go to jail.

Plus, he was already in a mental hospital and was released.

I personally wouldn't want him murdered. I don't believe in an eye for an eye.
Then we are very different people.

I think it should be the victim's (family, living) choice, to be perfectly honest, and they ALL have to say no.

It would be really strange if he only killed Drifters

Schizophrenia. He killed because he couldn't help it. Please read up on what he had.

Nope, I still wouldn't want him dead. Where I come from we don't kill people for doing things they can't stop.

i cringed
Except it's true.
It wasn't a decision he made, it was a decision his illness made.

You have no idea what schizophrenia is, do you? If someone is mentally ill, there are things they cannot stop.

Now stop being ignorant and please listen. He does not choose to see hallucinations, hear the voices in his head, or think he is a "prince of god" does he?

I personally wouldn't want him murdered. I don't believe in an eye for an eye completely.

If he's mentally ill and a threat to society, tough stuff for him.
Plenty of people with mentally ill disorders roaming around, you don't see them going on a killing spree now do you?
Why let him roam around the world, killing people, when his disorder is uncureble? More trouble caused than solved. Let's risk the lives of several people to save one mentally ill one who won't do anything for us in the future except make more trouble.

I know OP can relate to this emotionally because his uncle has the same disorder, but the difference here is, his uncle didn't kill 8 people.

i cringed
Thats completely possible though. Many people suffer from violent outbursts as a part of their disorder.
