I know OP can relate to this emotionally because his uncle has the same disorder, but the difference here is, his uncle didn't kill 8 people.

It's not even about punishment, it's about the families of the victims getting some sort of feeling of justice, compensation for someone taking something precious away from them, and quite frankly, he's outnumbered 8 to 1. Why would you deny that?

Guy was mentally ill, killed several people, went to an asylum, killed more people after released and now you expect others to forgive him? Guy is a threat to society and will cause more trouble if kept around.

What more is there? That he had a disorder or different brain level? What do you want to bet if he didn't have a disorder he would still break the law in some way because it looks like he had no morals? Some people have the same disorder as him, but they don't have those killing sprees, don't tell me that 'his brain works differently' because bullstuff, he had no morals to work with in the first place.
