it's annoying, because DRM is just loving annoying. But it's also organized and hosts regular sales so I can't complain. Most of my friends and the people I talk to are on steam as well, and I don't use skype because it's a bitch when I'm trying to play vidya gayems.

I'd still like to have most of my games as physical copies.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/port_1/games?tab=all (as you can see, I like it)

but the client is the most inefficient piece of crap ever

on the subject of that though, I use the Steam Store surprisingly rarely

Steam (Valve) had annoying and idiotic Dev decisions lately.
Removal of /me. Inclusion of Steam Market and Trading Cards are idiotic in my opinion. The sales were completely crap. They never fixed group event notifications (being able to disable them). The new profile is crap. The Level system is crap. The obligatory Emote button is crap. Most (98%) of the emotes are crap. Same as with backgrounds. Steam Cloud is crap. Steamworks is crap. Everything Valve did to Steam for the past months was complete crap.

Really awesome back in 2012 though I suppose.

can you tell me why you think everything is crap?

The obligatory Emote button is crap.

I wouldn't consider it obligatory when you can use skins to get rid of it.

The sales were completely crap.
I blame the sales on the fact that there weren't that many releases this year and the fact that generic shooters are the big cash now for right now.

I'll agree with on some of things like the removal of /me. However the emotes are alright, but I don't care about them.

While the market has some use, I find it unfair that people who have dumped thousands of dollars into steam have a higher chance getting trading cards boosters per badge craft than the guy who is at a lower level.

  • The removal of '/me' was classified as a phishing method against people who were too stupid to read the first line of every chat, and they would click and get their account hijacked by going to a website like '/me STEAM ADMIN come here for free games! potato.com'. However, everyone who actually used /me for it's real usage got a kick in the butt. Even after lots of unofficial (unfortunately) petitions and lots of screams from people (even groups dedicated to 'revival of /me' were created), Valve didn't give a plain forget, always stating that it's just because people got scammed with it.
  • Trading Cards are not that much of a bad idea if it wasn't for the Steam Market and that you only get half of the cards maximum required to get the badge. Additionally to that with the Level Cap, I find it handicapped that every level you get a better Max Friends and each 10 levels you get an additional slots. It's basically a prestige ego-machine.
  • The sales were crap. Everyone agrees with that. No need to point anything out here. Additionally having the trading cards as this Summer's sales 'features' was a really, really handicapped thing to do. Other sales had fun things to do for their 'specials' like achievements and such. This is not fun. Not to mention the same games were on sale for maximum 4 times. Additionally, the pricetags were bad even with their -33% and -50% on the Goddamn Flash/Daily sale. Prison Architect had -33% for the goddamn Daily Deal on the last day.
  • If you are in 300 groups and most of them have events, and maybe you even have groups that you like but they have events, you can't disable them instead you get them popped up, stealing focus in no matter what situation. Of course, unless you play a Steam game at the point.
  • You are given a tiny little bitsy info box unless you want to have a Information Showcase thing. Also your activity is always listed. They also moved the comment box to the bottom and friends are now organized based on their level, not based if they are playing/online/offline/blocked. That is completely annoying in my opinion.
  • I am sure no one actually uses ♫♥☺☹☻®™. They could've at least made the Emote button disable-able. Or at least make it tinier. I know you have emotes besides those but really now, I don't find a use for any of the above and if I want to use a emote, I generally memorize it, not go click a button to put it in the chatbox.
  • All the emotes were designed to look like you could use them as icons for a Cinema screen. On their tiny display on chatboxes/forums/etc. they clearly look greatly degraded in quality.
  • Backgrounds are generally bad. One character on Black background at the very least is the biggest concern. But there's also the consistency. Some have just one sides, some also have background on the middle but some have a black space in the middle. Some may not even look like they were made to fit the margins of the page to begin with (see: TF2 backgrounds).
  • Despite Steam Cloud's premises, I lost a lot of things that apparently don't get clouded. I never actually seen Steam Cloud do anything.
  • Most of my games were updated to Steamworks. I see absolutely no difference. Not in downloading, not in anything. Except that you now have more limited .gcf resources, which is not really a good thing.

And those are not the only things that I consider bad with Steam in the past months. Not to mention Big Picture is not used by even 1% of my friendlist, the chat history is generally useless as you always get just a random number of past chat lines and such. The list can go on.

its still being developed

Even more reason in my opinion.

This is the only point I don't quite understand. What was the purpose of this? It looked pretty god damn useless anyway.

Roleplayers.

Steamworks has nothing to do with that; Steamworks is the API for achievements, inviting to games, game servers cooperating with Steam Community and other such things. What you're referring to is SteamPipe. It greatly increases startup speeds of every game using it, simplifies skins/mods and makes being a dedicated server hoster much easier.
