Fantasy Steampunk Deathmatch

This is a deathmatch that I've been building recently that doubles as a Cohort application.

If I can get a dedicated server, I'll be able to host it.

The main weapons are spears, but there is also a bow in the center (Of the propeller) if you're able to get it. This deathmatch was created with steampunk and fantasy ideas in mind. There are various gears and clocks placed around the map that are either for show or to be utilized to get to higher/lower areas of the map. Islands are spread across the map for the same reasons.

The map is meant to give off an enchanting and majestic look, explaining the golden and cloudy skybox. It's very fun to play on and looks amazing in person.

Oh wow, that's amazing!

damn, that's pretty impressive!

Well, here we are!

You applied with a complete new kind of build!
This DM map is nice! I would have liked someting a bit bigger with more levels, maybe elevators, it could have be nice, and more gEars too. I like the floating islands and i regreat you didnt add more, or bigger things, trees would have been good too!

But, this is a nice build, not very big but i am sure people that will play this will enjoy it! I like simplicity! I saw your precedent app and the islands you did, and i know you can be a great builder with potential!

Terrain: 2/4
Build quality: 3/4
Originality: 4/4
Utility of the build: 4/4
General layout: 2/4

As i say, i dont know how much time you spent on it, but for a dm map, its very well done and it remind me of Monkeyboy's ones. I think people will enjoy it a lot, well, its a yes from me. (but like always, others members opinions count)!

I hate posting things like this on the forums because they look so much better ingame, lol.

Thanks Sylv!

I'm not really seeing the steampunk in the build, but I see the attempt. It needs a lot more machinery, honestly. Floating clocks don't seem like enough. Other than that, I like it! Too bad I was going to make a Steampunk DM. :K

Never mind, I see fans and stuff. Sorry!

this would be gorgeous if there weren't the random ugly floating clocks around to force a "steampunk" theme.

I really like this build. Fits well with the environment too. Not sure if Cohort is going to let you in, though. They have pretty high standards.

Also, didn't you make an archipelagos build? What happened to that?

Nothing, but it was denied eventually. I still love the build though.

Well, the definition of steampunk isn't "has to have clocks". It's just something that I wanted to include (I didn't say "Lets make it a steampunk map by adding clocks", the clocks were more of a last-minute thing. I had the idea of steampunk before the project started.)

The reason I called it steampunk was because of all of the the props (All of the various gears, the big propeller in the middle and the clocks) together. To make them not look the same, they all have different times on them, which I thought gave a pretty neat effect.

I'm sorry you found them ugly, but I love them. Perhaps it was the color? I didn't want to make it look dull and gray, so I added golden-type shades of yellow to give it an older look, as well as with the propeller. If I took away the clocks, the build would be missing some character, in my opinion.

I truly hope that this will be my last application and that I can soon host the map. Since I've been dedicated on not giving up until I am accepted, I haven't had the time to just build for the fun of it (Through projects, etc. which I am hoping I can do with the members of Cohort.)
I think that I'll grow a tremendous amount in building skill and learn styles from the different members as well as them learning styles from me. As a writer, I'm filled with ideas on what to do next.

My first two applications were terrain-based. (For all of you who didn't know.) At first, I made a swamp, which at the end I wasn't proud of. The archipelago was a build I was very confident in, but to my disappointment, I learned that I was denied again. Many of the issues from both of my maps revolved around terrain, so for this application, I decided to use a new style of terrain (Hard to see in the pictures) while also not making that the main part of the build.

Fantasy themes are my forte, and I love steampunk as well. There shouldn't be a reason not to combine the two, especially when they're so similar in nature. I've grown a lot in building from just applying several times. (I applied for Height 6 times, and although they were all small builds, at the time, I really thought all of them would get me in. Since then, my views on what is acceptable in my opinion as a quality build have changed.)

This is my first time building so many large-scale applications (The swamp was around 13.5k bricks over 18 64x baseplates, and the archipelago was around 11k-12k spread out over 30 64x baseplates. I haven't gotten the opportunity to measure this one yet, but my guess is that it's around 15 64x baseplates. Its brickcount is 10.3k).

To be honest I thought your previous application was strong but hey, if we're talkin steam punk here I'm game:

The first thing is that as soon as I saw the build i noticed the color. It's pretty bland. I counted about  8 colors for the entire thing. I understand that you were going for a sort of gray-scale looking thing but some browns for wood and more shades of gray would have definitely benefitted this build. The clocks are a quirky touch and the gears are nicely done. I also really like that propellor. However, I feel that more touches like the propellers and such would be good because you haven't got many of them and their sparse placement is sorta odd. It looks less like a steam punk fantasy and more like a bag of clocks and gears were thrown into zero- gravity space and are hovering around the staging area. The ground is also pretty bland and those sorta pillar looking bits could use some fleshing out.

I also feel this build could've used more buildings or landmarks, maybe a big clock tower in the middle or something.
However, the build looks very functional and original.

I know it sounds like I'm destroying this build, and sorry, it's just that I don't really see where you were going with this build. If it's going for pure functionality and less aesthetics, then maybe I'm just not getting that.

I'm saying No. luckily for you, I wanted you to get in for your last application so it's technically already a yea for me, though I'll have to consult with the others to see if that's okay

I appreciate that you provided us with a video. It is a good move to make to show off your build from a better perspective. Dig the music.

The build.. hm. It's a pretty thing, can't deny that.. but the complexity of it is not what you first think. When I take a closer look all I see is props, 8x8f grates, 8x16 bricks and 8x2 plates. What it lacks in detail it makes up for with soul. It is simple yet beautiful. The props is the star of the show. I, for one, like the clocks. I get like Dali vibes. The golden touch adds a lot to the whole picture. Good call with changing the time on em, I like that. The gears are neat crafts. The islands, however, are too much like cones. They could of been done with more variety than you actually think. They're alright nonetheless. The propeller is a great addition. Like Anti, I don't really think it's so much steampunk into this. It's more of just a clusterforget of paths and props. But I like the themes it contains.

Honestly, this build isn't impressive at all and I wouldn't of accepted anyone applying with this. Except you. You've shown dedication in your apps, creativity, sincerity and heart. You want in, because you want to grow and I really can't deny someone that. It's a yes. But not because of this app. I accept you because of all your apps. I think it's a yes from Anti too, seeing he's in the same thoughts as I.
