Author Topic: [Cohort Application] Fantasy Steampunk DM  (Read 9607 times)

Nice, but I think its more "dream-like," instead of Steampunk

it's more surrealistic than steampunk

the dramatic unfolding of cohort member's thoughts and OP's thoughts makes a better drama than the drama board.

it does look nice and all but as sleven said it is pretty simplistic. the platforms are pretty much plates and don't have much "steampunk-esque" development to make it look like some awesome wooden ship flying in the sky or something.

lol
Thank you for your compliment;I was going for a more simplistic look while also trying to not make it look bland.

I invited Evan to a clinic and he showed me many builds he created. From the builds he showed me, these are the marks I give him:

Terrain Skills:      8/10
Building Skills:     5/10
Originality:          5/10

A note to clan members:
It's very clear that Evan is a fantastic terrain builder and I give him good marks for that. However, his building skills fall behind what is necessary for Cohort members and could use improvement. I did like the cabin build that he showed me at the end of the clinic so that's why his building and originality skills are at a medium. That said, when I give him a 5/10, I really mean that he's fulfilled his skills by 50% and has the room to grow. With him in the clan, we'd be benefiting from his terrain familiarity and he'd be benefiting from our building experience. It's a yes from me.

A note to Evan:
I really enjoyed my clinic with you and would hope to see you in the future participating in one of our projects. It was certainly a pleasure to get to see what you've been up to and I hope you gained some perspective on your builds from my critiques. I want to see a lot of dedication from you if you're accepted, because you have the potential to be greater if the right amount of dedication and hard work is applied. Thank you, and good luck!

Based on this app alone, I would say no. As other people pointed out, it is very bland and simplistic. I get that it is supposed to be a fast-paced DM, but I'd still some more variety and detail here and there. Especially the paths are very boring. The clock and the propeller add to the fantasy theme, so I think they're alright. But unfortunately, a few good props don't make the entire build good.

That being said, I would still like you in the clan. You've shown true dedication with your applications. And I like that you took the risk and built something completely different this time. You could've just played the safe card and taken the critique on your previous app to improve on it or build something else in a different style. But no, you decided to explore unknown territory and apply with something completely different.

damn...

Sleven and I, as well as many other members, seem to be on the same page. I completely agree with the points that have already been brought up, and there is not much to add.

I strongly appreciate your dedication, your passion, and desire to be in our clan. It's a yes from me as well, and as already stated by other members, it's not so much as for this app, but for all of them and my confidence that you will grow as a builder.
