Author Topic: Mom being forced into juror duty  (Read 1633 times)

Don't you also get signed up if you have a 'civil' job? Like being a teacher or a doctor or something.
I ask because I know my parents don't have to do any of this stuff in the UK since they don't have 'civil' jobs.
The UK is different.

She needs to deal with it, Every US citizen has to do it unless they have a good reason they can't do it.

She got a letter in the mail a few days ago saying that she will HAVE to become a juror and if she doesn't accept it shes going to jail, WHAT THE forget? do any of you think this right? cause she doesn't even want to do it

Sorry if it seems like a sloppy topic :c
Um, yes. It's necessary because that's what a good citizen does.

If she is sick, she doesn't have to go.

Wtf, lol. You're entitled to the right of a trial by your peers. Since it's not 1788 anymore, and people live in bigger settlements than they did then, the fair way of summoning jurors (peers) is via random selection. It doesn't matter if you want to go or not, if nobody went to jury duty then the legal system would not work.

This.

i really like how the op makes it sound like some terrible undeserved punishment

You can easily get out of this by just blatantly lying. Depending on the case you could say you don't believe in death sentence, or some fake religious bullstuff etc.
lol you could say that you speak bad English in a very sloppy letter

My dad likes jury duty. :^)

Since I turned 18 and will register to vote soon sometime, i wouldn't mind doing jury duty once just to see what its like. it seems exciting being a part of our legal system. problem with it is for my dad the letter always seems to come at the worst times.

Nope. I remember my 3rd grade teacher said that she be gone for a few days for jury duty

I have a feeling OP doesn't know what the forget "Juror" duty even is.

Don't like it renounce your citizenship and live somewhere else.

Why is this even an issue? Whatever her job may be, her employer is legally obligated to give her the day off of work. I'm not entirely sure how payment is factored into this, but unless she is payed by the hour, she will also probably receive whatever pay she agreed to.
