Author Topic: why do people hate blockland for it's community?  (Read 7048 times)

do you feel as if we can grow to about over 1000 players in servers at once in a year or two if we get onto steam?

oh yeah steam will triple our population by like next summer.
mostly due to the word of mouth from steam users, as apposed to just ours, that don't spread very far.

I hope we don't become overcrowded though, but I am happy that we can look forward to a new influx of users. Do you think we're definitely getting on Steam this year? I'm asking you out of all people because I think you're very smart and one of the smartest and oldest remaining Blocklanders.

I hope we don't become overcrowded though
This. I like the cozy feeling of the small community of Blockland. :(

I do too, but at a certain point you need new people. I don't think we'll be overcrowded, but there won't be a cozy feeling anymore once we get onto Steam.  :panda:

Not all the games on Steam are popular.

Lets consider a few prospects.  The majority of people playing this game are in the 10-14 age range, this being that they are looking around the Internet more and find the game, as opposed to younger kids who don't have as ready access to Internet.  Also, people start leaving blockland the older they get, and so not as many older kids as the middle-aged kids.

Now let's look at that age range again (10-14), how do these Tweens and young teens typically act in school, in the community, etc.?  Pretty badly, they are just learning curse words, so every sentence they say has to have "forget" or "stuff" in there twice.  The testosterone (haven't seen too many richardhead female blocklanders) also begins to pump through their bodies, which causes changes in emotions and attitudes.  This translates to COD levels of profanitial exclamation on the forums.

What else are these kids?  Middle-schoolers, right?  Isn't their main goal in life, in that level of schooling, to gain as much good rep as possible?  The only way to do that for them is by being complete starfishs to everyone they meet, which is only multiplied by the relative safety of the Internet.  These are the kids who would be picked on by bullies on the playground, but they are all too wussy to stand up for themselves, and that passive-aggressive take on the whole situation would translate into cyber bullying, because that is the only way they can bully.

The good people (the younger and the older) then come in and drop a big "no, you're dumb for the following correct reasons, all supported by evidence" kind of posts, which piss off those biologically unstable little balls of egocentric douchery.  They then go drama how the forum is stuffty because they were called out for their douch-tasticness, and all run crying away.

This theory of mine, which I have long held to be true and have observed many times to be true, is not the only explanation - it is a reasoning for one portion of the blockland population to hate on the community.

So yes, I personally and on average hate the community, because I hate the little douch-tastic 10-14 year olds that rage across these forums - they make up the majority > I hate the majority > I on average hate the community-dwellers > I hate the community

Other reasons include the younger kids not understanding the game that well, nor do they understand the forums either, so they ask previously asked questions (which most people hate reanswering), and are therefore flamed for doing such.  These kids end up hating the forums, and the people flaming the poor kid hate the "stupid 50k noobs" for not knowing what to do.

Then there are the older kids, who have all of the experience, many are expert modelers, builders, scripters, eventers, server hosts, etc., and they feel they know absolutely everything there is to know about their field of expertise.  I call my [Self] an expert eventer and am pretty damn good at building and fighting, but I don't go around flaunting it or discrediting other people just because they might be slower or less experienced.  These new kids then end up hating the community because the older kids are major richards, and the older kids hate the "stupid 50k noobs" because they are annoying the older kids with their slowness.

Let's end the experience barrier separating us from coming together as a good community, and let's strive to teach the next generation the skills we possess so that the game can further its development.  After V21 came out, there was a major drop in addon creation rates IIRC.  The people who were hiding in the shadows of the old addon makers stepped up a couple months later, but that gap in addon creation crippled the community in a way.  We must prevent stuff like this in the future.

Yup
You weren't popular as a kid in school, were you?

Not all the games on Steam are popular.

Many of the multiplayer ones are.
Look at Realm of the Mad God before they got onto Steam- I was a player on it before they got onto Steam and nobody knew of the game or even played it before. Quirky multiplayer games usually get more notability on Steam.

Oh my god.  Why am I laughing so hard.

OP is new and has generalized about the community.

Fine.

Then go and kill yourself, therefore making the community smaller.
Badspot reference.

Um, no.

OP is trolling purposely.

Um, no.

The community getting more active, more users, more servers is much better for me.
unless flooders, exploiters and that kind of people come and mess this up.

Highly likely.
why would I troll?
To waste peoples time and piss people off...or annoy them or something along those lines.  That's pretty much this entire community.
