Author Topic: How do I even Algebra?  (Read 3567 times)

Due to a problem with my (now previous) school placing me in the wrong level of Algebra last year, I have once again failed Algebra. I'd love to sit and explain how I'm a Junior in High School and I'm still in Algebra 1, but the subject is a bit difficult to explain. At this point, I'm not even sure what I'm doing. I've been unable to even try with Algebra pretty much all of last year and I went through the entire summer of being away from anything school-related.

So, my school has asked everyone to take these scantron assessments (probably to decide if you're an idiot or not) and I've managed to complete two questions of the math portion.. until this motherforgeter came along:

I just can't loving win. I can't even understand the most basic of fractions anymore.

I remember some stuff about changing the bottom to make them the same and then changing the top too, but I have no loving idea anymore. I'm just going to accept the fact that I'm incapable of comprehending Algebra.

wtf?? you handicapped brother?

wtf?? you handicapped brother?

I guess so. I can do everything else but Algebra.

Nice to see that your fourth post is already flaming, though.  :cookieMonster:

Algebra is pointless anyway. You will never even need to use it in your life unless you are trying to become an engineer or architect. All you really need to learn in life is Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

It also helps to be Literate.

Dividing by a fraction is multiplying by its reciprocal.

I've got all of those down. But I can't graduate High School without passing Algebra. LOL

I would've ditched this stuff loooong ago.

Is that "-5 + 2/13" or "-5 * 2/13"?

Is that "-5 + 2/13" or "-5 * 2/13"?

I'm assuming the former considering if it was the latter, the fraction would be in parenthesis.

Is that "-5 + 2/13" or "-5 * 2/13"?

It's a mixed fraction. 5 wholes and 2/13

What the forget you're in 11th grade Algebra 1?

I want to be an architect though :c

That's weird. Proper fractions should never be in equations.

Anyways, the first step is to convert it into an improper fraction.

I kinda went through some troubled times in life which caused me to fail just about everything.

I'm a Junior with about as many credits as a Freshman. I'm trying to gain all of them back before I'm supposed to graduate in 2015.

So it's not really that I'm stupid or anything. But when it comes to Algebra, I'm probably stupid. lol

I've failed this class at least three or four times through many different attempts at finishing the class and then bailing.

That's weird. Proper fractions should never be in equations.

That's what I figured I should probably do. Isn't it possible to ignore the five wholes until the end though?
