Author Topic: Vince Ackerman - Stealing My Build  (Read 9857 times)

why are you calling it "stealing"
stealing is when one person takes it, and you don't have the item anymore
a more appropriate term would be "cloning"
I knew someone was going to bring this up. I've played for 4 years, so I'm pretty sure it should be obvious I know you can't steal a build by definition of the word stealing.
If I say stealing I just expect people to know I don't mean stealing as in the literal sense. Especially if the op mentions steling in the same sense I do.

It's simple, If you want a build to stay private make your server private. End of!

If someone uses your build on their server, it's fine, take it as a compliment. You can't put something up in public domain and not want it taken, it's like leaving your car unlocked with the keys in the ignition then complaining when someone steals it, except you still have your build saved. Just grow up.

Uh, common sense tells me you put more effort into a 100k brick build than a 3k brick build.
It's like having a carton of milk stolen versus your car. How can you not get that?
i fully get it, i just think it's funny that you're trying to say my experience isn't 'legitimate' just based on that i dont hold the same view as you

i didn't even say how many bricks my build was that got taken lol

It's not illigitimate, I jsut can't understand someone wouldn't get mad if they had a large build copied from them with a huge plaster 'I built this and put a lot of effort in it, so praise me for it' sticked to it by the person that copied it. I wouldn't like it if I bought a sports car with hard earned money that then got copied by some lazy slacker that then drives around town boasting his ability to buy this expensive car, while he's leeching off of my effort, and I can't understand why anybody would.

You're comparing a sports car to a virtual lego build.

That's a horrible brown townogy lol
Copy a car? The scenario you gave implied theft, which would deny one party access to said goods. Someone saving doesn't deny access.

Yeah, that's an brown townogy.

Nope, I'm saying that if you put effort into a build for people to enjoy and be impressed by, and maybe even respect you for it, someone shouldn't come along and get the same results without having to put said effort into it. Carefully re-read my anaogy. I meant that here are now 2 cars, one of which was worked for by someone willing to put effort into reaching a goal, and one by someone who was lazy and wanted the same results without the same effort. How you can't find guy #2 a richard in this scenario is beyond me.

Yeah, that's an brown townogy.
A very stupid one. Let me break it down in multiple points:

  • Everyone would be upset if their car is stolen because it's a thing they can't get back.
  • A build on Blockland can't be stolen just by someone else saving your build because it's still in your Save file. You failed to read some the posts in this topic.
  • Instead of confronting the person who took the build, Mounds Bar decided to be a crybaby and write a Drama about it. These kind of dramas are always stupid.
  • It's a loving virtual lego build.

Like I said before, everyone has access to your build and able to save it for themselves if you make it public. Yeah, it's a richard move to take it and claim it's yours, but the amount of importance the stolen object has is so little it's not worth to complain about it on here.

Please highlight where I said the car was stolen. I even replaced every single instance of the word 'stolen' with copied because I knew you guys would nitpick about it. Confronting the person that copied your build usually doesn't work out, since he knowingly copied it. Also, your third point is dismissive. This drama is very sueful, since I can now preemptively ban Vince from my server, because he is a richard my my standards. That is what drama is for. For your 4th point, please refer to Subpixel's 'That's like lighting a kid's playground on fire and saying "It was only a playground."'

A playground is more important than a build in Blockland.

There you go, making more brown townogies again.

If you could not only adress the smallest, most insignificant point that'd be great.
Video games are becoming too big of a thing in our daily lives as adolescents to just wave away as 'just a videogame'.
It's not like every event loses significance because it's a game. If someone were to exploit a bug in a shooter game and shoot you every time you spawn while you're just trying to relax after a day of school or work, it's not like you're not entitled to be mad at it. I bet you'd just wave it away as 'meh, it's just a game, better go do something else'. In which case you'd not be doing what you initially wanted to do because of an event ingame.

That kind of stuff is against the rules in online shooter games anyway. If build stealing/copying was at that level of seriousness Badspot would've of done something way before this topic.

Should you get mad at someone hacking/exploiting a game? Yes. Would you get mad at someone taking your build on Blockland and calling it theirs? Yes. It is a logical and a common choice to get mad at something, but someone who's a little more smart and calm would find other means of fixing the situation instead of crying about it to others, especially a forum like this. I may be defeating the purpose of Drama itself, but there are many other ways of solving this.

But many of those other ways don't include getting me informed this starfish is on the lose and therefor I approve of this drama as a public safety announcement. I'd rather have him both settle it the way you would suggest AND make a drama topic to get us informed. Also, it doesn't have to be hacking, a camper with a shotgun or sniper rifle will also do. Even legitimate things such as the enemy team being a lot better than yours.

This would be true, if Mounds Bar stop green texting like a moron and gives us proof of Vince taking more than his build.

If we're going to discuss FPS strategies now then I'm just going to slit my wrists.

Just stuff that gets you mad in videogames with good reason in general. Mounds is a bit odd on the forums indeed, but I really don't care who the offender or who the victim is, it's just the concept.
