Author Topic: What's a game or program I should make?  (Read 4813 times)

I need a quick idea for a game or tool to work on.
Summers ending and I want a project to work on as collage starts.
I'll probably be making this in C++, but java is a possiblity.
Thanks for reading.

something that teaches you to script in C++

An easy tool to open spreadsheets/databases without having to wait ten years for excel to open. I made a similar thing for my Visual Basic class sophomore year (forget off) but I lost it after the semester because I don't back up stuff. It's handy to keep track of simple things like schedules and lists. If you were to think of other handy features to add to it tit'd be swell as hell.

Tit.
But seriously.

OP, make a simple game that involves blowing stuff up.

Learn DirectX and OpenGL for C++ then develop some 3D game. Without them you're not going to be doing much work with C++. I would suggest learning C# also if you want to develop applications/web.

You can make an IRC client & server. It's small and simple if you know what you're doing and you have the protocol information.

Create an HTML/CSS randomizer (basically, provide it with the site content, and let it randomize a theme for it, staying within some guidelines, of course).

a procedural generating 2D space colonization game

like a mix of FTL and Starship Tycoon with colonization

If you use RTB as anyhting other than a friend's list and an add-on downloader, you're a nut. The public IRC room is so awful.

a co-op horror game.

the indie game industry is seriously lacking in that department
