Author Topic: Afraid to buy things  (Read 2828 times)

This is my first post in a long time, holy sheet.

Does anyone else get really creepy about buying things (especially online)? I want to buy some ATH M50's, and at an incredible price, but I find that I just can't press the ship button. I do need them as my old cans (ATH M30s) are tattered and old.

I hate money

Are you Jewish? I think being scared of making purchases is genetic in Jews.

what makes you think they're so creepy

everyone gets this, there's a latin term for it but I forgot. Learned it in banking and finance, it's a natural and reoccurring phenomena

A lot of websites like Ebay will have reviews of the person selling that you can see, that way it is easy to spot someone who may be scamming you. I don't know if amazon has this feature because I have never used it.

I get that way real bad. I never get a product online without having some sort of comments.

I get it bad though, sometimes to the point of being physically ill when I receive the product in the mail.

As a note, part of the reason for getting a debit card is that if I don't actually see the money moving, maybe the effect will be lessened.

They're not. I have a job and racked up some cash before summer ended. however my income will be slow during the school year.

I am torn by this, I don't think you know many Jews then. I'm Jewish. Many Jews tend to be conservative with money, and they spend their money wisely -- there isn't anything wrong with being frugal and trying to save. Most billionaires in the world and millionaires tend to be frugal and conservative with their money (and many happen to be Jewish too). I'm not trying to gloat though. I just think that when a person saves their money, they shouldn't be categorized as "cheap". When people shop, they tend to get really carried away and start spending rapidly.

I get that way with big purchases. Like, even if something that costs $400 will make me happier than 40 $10 items I'll feel really weird about actually spending the $400 on one thing. But, when it comes to small purchases (<$50) I can rack up a hundred before I realize what I've done.

And then you realized it was just a stereotypical joke.

what do you know? you're a caribou

Caribou's are people too.  :panda:

I have always known that Jews being considered "cheap" was a stereotype, but not a joke. A lot of people take it seriously and think it's 100% true. All groups suffer from stereotypes though.

Well I bought the damn thing, so well see what happens.

But yeah if I bought $120 in music I would not think twice. but one $120 purchase? stuff my pants
