Author Topic: Is Adblock no longer blocking Youtube ads?  (Read 4758 times)

The fact that they make money from people being forced to watch their ads and not product sales itself is stupid in it's own right.

However Jacksaunt is right about the host site making needed money off the ad placements, it doesn't mean I want to see them.
Money is given to the host either way.

So you're mad that all of Google's services are free for you including YouTube? .. okay then.

It's blocking them for me.

HA HA EAT IT ADBLOCK USERS
Holy stuff at all the people that hate me now because I said that haha

It's blocking them for me.
trying clicking an annotation to another video, brings an ad to me

Jesus loving Christ.

I'm tired of people saying how ads "only take 30 seconds or your time" and "just do something else while you wait"

No.

Advertising is the laziest and rudest way of making money ever.
Imagine if you will, you are walking into a store minding your own business, then two security guards and a man in a hotdog suit run out in front of you.
One of the security guards states, "you cant go into the store until the advertisement is over"
Then the man in the hotdog suit takes out a package of hotdogs and continues telling you how great his brand of hotdogs are for 3 minutes straight.
if you try to walk away the security guards push you back and say "not yet."

That's what advertising feels like to me, I'm constantly getting things i don't care about shoved in my face and its annoying.

Especially if it a movie on some sort of free site and it plays the same advertisement 6 times throughout the movie.

Why can't people just find a better way to make money that's not a pain to their customers?

I agree with this completely but.. ads actually make money? I wasn't aware anyone ever went out and bought something they saw during a youtube advertisement.

Companies pay Google money to display ads on YouTube videos, and then video owners can opt into them and get money for them based on how many people watch them.

Lol, this is a terrible example. You're always free to exit the page whenever you want. There's no hand zapper keeping you from clicking X or something.

-snip-
Adding to this, how would you feel if blockland was free and instead, while loading, you're forced to watch a 1 minute advertisement.

it doesn't matter if you've already finished loading after 30 seconds, you still have to watch the entire ad until it's over

let's say that instaed of the guards grabbing you, they block your path, forcing you to watch the ad,
but you can leave any time.

how would you feel if, inorder to start your car, you had to watch an ad.
to start up your pc, you had to watch an ad
to exit your home, you had to watch an ad
to goto sleep, you had to watch an ad.

it's ridiculous, but so is putting ad's in a video.

Advertising is a way to get noticed. How did you find out about Blockland or this forum?

Then again, when the advertisement says not to click the Skip Ad option while watching Youtube videos I just want to punch them in the face.

holy stuff no kidding? Too bad that has nothing to do with what I said.

Also, his example was good except the part about not being to leave the but leaving defeats the purpose so your point is invalid. Good day to you sir.

My friend told me about blockland. it was only about a year after buying it did i see actual ads about it.

Yeah you can exit the page, but you cant see what you came to the page for.
"Oh look! someone im subscribed to made a new video!"
"Oh no there is an ad blocking me from seeing it! guess ill just close the page and never see the video ever again because the only thing i can do is leave!"

What the hell? What are you coming across as an starfish for? The way you worded what you said made it seem to me like you didn't fully understand how ads worked or something. I was just trying to be nice and explain it for you...

The difference is that you're watching ads to gain access to free entertainment. Free entertainment is nothing to be complaining about. If you want to be mad at someone for having to waste 30 seconds of your day for free entertainment then send a message to the video uploader. And assuming that you want to support said video uploader, you really should just watch the ads anyway. That's how many people make a living.

going to sleep is free

if someone put ads when you tried to do all of those things, would you complain?

Okay I got a good idea. Lets make YouTube a paid service. Every video you watch cost $1. /sarcasm, seriously, they provide a free loving service, deal with a few ads
