Author Topic: Is society getting more and more sensitive?  (Read 3057 times)

No stuff storm please. Just debate if any.

I mean you see people becoming overly sensitive and making big deals out of jokes and such, acting like people should treat their opinions as gold or something. You can't have someone do something, without pissing someone off, there will always be that one guy who decides that they want to get offended.
"Hmm I'm offended, I should tell him that and make him feel bad."
"Oh you said 'monday' and you're white? Time to tell you how tribal your cracker ass is."

I can't be the only one who's noticed that in the past years people are getting more and more sensitive. Are people just developing new strategies and excuses to make themselves feel important or defend themselves? Looks like a trend or something.

I make gay love jokes every now and then, and people get pissed off at me, but not when I make straight love jokes. I have a gay friend who I poke fun at, but I know he doesnt really care because hes a good friend. Theway Iit seems nowadays is that people get offended by something that doesnt relate to them at all, such as racism and stuff.

I SIR AM OFFENDED YOU THINK SOCIETY IS GETTING MORE SENSITIVE

GET BANNED AND DIE AND STUFF
this is a joke please don't hate me

if anything i'd say we're getting desensitive
i mean we're cracking 9/11, tribal, and national socialist jokes

Society, I think, has basically shredded into a number of different threads. Some are super offended by everything, other's just don't care. The rest are a mix of who gets offended by what. It's extremely awkward, and a large reason as to why I stay cooped up in my room.

national socialist jokes
hold on, let me s.s. the situation

society isn't more sensitive, people are less respectful and caring of what they say.

40 yeas ago a kid wouldn't /dare/ mention some of the things I see kids say on a daily basis, and say myself.  That's how it was, it wasn't any better or worse than society today, things were just different

Society changes, people change, but I wouldn't say we're any less sensitive, just less courteous of what we say to each other.

Nope
People are getting more arrogant and self absorbed. It's not called sensitive when someone gets pissed when you're making fun of death

We are getting if anything -- too insensitive. The N word shouldn't be used whether you are black or white. The N word had such a terrible usage back then, and it is much worse to say than calling a white man a honky tonk or a cracker. I'm white and when my white friends say the N word I take offense to it. It just is a word nobody should use (the N word). It is a powerful word, even blacks shouldn't be saying it if they knew that it was used by whites to black slaves and such.

oh and this a response to what i said in the "you laugh you lose" thread? it's really coming off as one

what i said if you haven't seen it:
You forget off. I know friends who's fathers and mothers died. I remember the panic when my mom pulled us out of preschool early, then my dad, who worked a block away from the WTC not call until midnight.

Not only that but my town was close enough to NYC that you could see the smoke from the towers. Anyone is allowed to mourn the loss of 2996 innocent men and women. You just yearn to be an starfish, don't you?

yes it is
it's different if they make a personal joke relating to the death of one of your loved ones specifically but I doubt that it often the case
death is something that happens to everybody and if you can't handle jokes about it you need to stop spending time on the internet

9/11/2001 was almost twelve years ago, get over it. it was a terrible thing to happen, but it's been way too long for people to continue to get offended about it
