I think they did it just to make a cheaper version of the 3ds available, and so that people who don't like the 3d feature don't have to pay extra for it, and I don't see how anybody could be angered by this since nobody's forcing you to use it.

Its the fact that its not cheaper. At the moment, you can buy a regular 3DS for about 100$. A full 30$ less than the 2DS.

Local stores where I live sell new Original 3DS's at 100$.
The sales that they are putting up like that are fresh factory made sent directly to you.

Well damn, buy two new, put 'em up on eBay and make $300+ or something.

As for the "inflated shop prices", $170 is the stock price that Nintendo recommends. Whoever is selling that stuff in your local area is losing profits.
