Author Topic: Steam Greenlight most likely possibilities...  (Read 8563 times)

Because Darksaber2213 made a horrible topic of non-facts and bad assumptions, I have decided to ACTUALY HELP the people who need to know these things.

If you don't know what Blockland even is, look around these fourms and/or click this link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=95710780

Steam Overlay and Return to Blockland
"Will the steam overlay work?"
Blockland will likely have the steam overlay. You can gain the ability to use it when you run it as a non-steam game, so it stands to reason that it will still work with the steam version.

"Will the steam overlay have problems, like glitching?"
Likely not. As I said before, you can gain the ability to use the steam overlay when you run it as a non-steam game. I have used the steam overlay many times and I have not seen any specific problems with it. The only things that might bother you are the fact that chat links don't go right to the overlay, and that it does not pause the game when in singleplayer. I have also noticed that it's a little slow, but it's quite easy to deal with.

"Will RTB work with the steam overlay?"
It's very likely RTB will still work. You will likely be able to open the steam overlay even while the RTB overlay is open. I have tested this out in the non-steam version myself. You will never be able to open the RTB overlay over the steam overlay because RTB is in the actual game. You will need to change the binding of either the steam overlay or the RTB overlay if you want to use a specific overlay.

"Will RTB be phased out?"
Not likely. RTB can and likely will coexist with Steam. The way I see it is that RTB connects with Blockland players all over, while Steam connects with everyone. If you want to chat with your blockland-only buddies, then go use RTB PMs. You can use steam to chat with people who are not playing blockland. If you want to chat in blockland-only rooms, go to RTB's general discussion. Also, let me just say that RTB allows you to easily modify your server in tons of ways, steam can only download files for games that have workshop.

Add-Ons
"Will Blockland have Steam Workshop?"
Nobody except Badspot can really answer this. I can imagine blockland working well with this, but I'll have to say that it's not very likely. However, if it were to happen, just know that you will not be forced to use it, other ways to download add-ons will very likely still exist, like RTB! I imagine it will be like Garry's Mod. You will be able to download the add-ons ingame, like RTB, and you would be able to search by saves, music, add-ons, etc. These are just guesses though, don't take it as fact.

Keys
"Will I still have my ID if I use the steam version?"
Yes. It's likely that the steam version will simply start off on the demo. You would simply insert your key and play normal. Your current key will work.

"Will there still be keys?"
There might. It's possible that downloading blockland via steam will be free, however you will need to buy a key. Simply insert the key and you are playing.

Blockland
"Will there be any steam-exclusive features?"
Likely not. It will simply be another way to purchase the game.

"Will I be forced to use steam from now on?"
No, you will not have to use steam to run Blockland. As I sad, this will be an additional way for people to get the game.

Payment
"Will the price be changed?"
Not permanently. With a wider audience, reduced prices, sales, and bundles are much more likely to occur.

"When can we get Blockland via steam?"
I don't know. Badspot might not even know. I can only say that you might be able soon.

Specials
"Will there be Steam Achievements?"
I don't know.

"Will there be Steam Trading Cards?"
I don't know.

I hope that this cleared everything up for new users and for confused users.
Do not listen to Darksaber2213, he's likely on those magic mushrooms. super mario mushrooms

Ask more things here and I might add it to the OP.

How is this any different from Blockland's normal behavior?

How is this any different from Blockland's normal behavior?

I always thought that if you bought Blockland on steam and tried running it, it would give you that window that pops up saying "This game needs a certain key, etc etc, copy to clipboard" or something like that, and for the free version you just click the white button that says "Download Demo" like a bunch of other games on Steam

RTB already has the mod manager, and since that will work for Blockland whether it's on Steam or not, how would the Steam Workshop work if it had support? Would it be for actual in-game update suggestions?

I like the idea of workshop, but it needs alot of work.

crispy, lol, your assumptions are as bad as his, what the hell

What is wrong with the workshop? I've had very little issues with it

What are you people doing?

crispy, lol, your assumptions are as bad as his, what the hell
would you please point them out

What Crispy did right in this is that most of the topic is written in non-absolute terms. Which mirrors the situation well because a lot of stuff is just up in the air right now, we're not sure where it's going.

so you wrote this topic because you thought the other guy wrote assumptions and guesses

and what authority bestowed onto you "the right information"?  your thread is just as much of assumptions and guesses as his was.
