Author Topic: my hard drive is toast  (Read 3656 times)

so a while ago the fan on my HDD went loving crazy and then my machine just shut down. when I rebooted my machine it ran a check disk and ever since my computer has been freezing up and going unresponsive. When it does that I have to restart the machine and then it wants to run a check disk.

well yesterday that happened and instead of doing the check disk it just kept bluescreening and restarting, so I tried to do a hardware recovery and the OS wasn't even being recognized. I took the HDD out and booted from another one, I tried to load my old HDD via usb and it starts doing a high pitched squeal and it starts clicking

so im assuming it's toasted and literally everything on it, blockland saves, pictures, stories, everything I've done since I was 13, all gone.

these truly are hard times.

Is there a possibility that you might of stored some things you had on the hard drive on some sort of USB? I really hope that you didn't lose everything.

That exact thing happened to my laptop and that's how I lost A FULLY WORKING ARENA SAVE AND TONS OF OTHER stuff and raged for the next couple days.

these truly are hard times.
I see what you did there.

Please may I have the toast? (Might work in my laptop) lolno but still I want toast

nope. all gone

What the.. I feel really bad for you. I still have a Apple desktop from 1999 (it was my parents) but it still works perfectly and runs well. I can't believe that it hasn't broke yet. I have so many nostalgic things on it. If I lost the computer, I would probably cry and QQ a bunch.

You didn't back anything up? There are a few data recovery services

everyone store your important stuff to a dropbox
god this feels stuffty
i've lost the drive to continue

nothing was backed up unfortunately. My dad is trying to recover it

I couldn't imagine loosing all my research stuff. That really sucks.

I back my drives up to a 2TB External Drive every week, you should probably do something like that too so this doesn't happen again.

On this computer I don't have 90 percent of the apps I typically use so I wouldn't really care if I lost everything.

Thanks for contributing a useless post.

yeah all im really upset about is all my blockland saves and a bunch of pictures
still sucks. put a lot of time into those saves and those pictures aren't available anymore

My dad kept telling me to back it up but I never really knew what to back up so I just didn't back anything up.

If you can, back up EVERYTHING.

Otherwise, have a single folder to back up, and just save everything you'll need to keep in that folder. For me, that's usually just my home folder, as it's where all of my configs / data are saved. Everything outside of that is just a bunch of apps which I can easily reinstall.

Also, this is coming from someone that lost everything 2-3 times, so if it happened again, I'd get over it within a week.
