Author Topic: I need help focusing  (Read 2132 times)

I can't get stuff done for school (currently around the freshman-sophomore level taking advanced classes). It takes me almost 2 hours to do a simple Spanish worksheet with easy content that I should be able to do in 15 minutes, and god knows how I've been managing up to now. At this point, I've tried everything I've heard of and none of it works. Of course, I've tried just sitting down and doing it and I end up staring at my paper, the desk, the wall, or playing with my pencil. I tried doing in it in 5 minute blocks and setting goals, and that doesn't work. I've tried doing it nearby someone to tell me to focus, and it doesn't work. I've tried taking occasional breaks but then I get caught up and it doesn't work. I know I don't have AD(H)D, but I still can't ever focus. It's not like the content is difficult or even that time-consuming, but I've almost given up hope at this point. Any tips?

Chewing gum helps a lot for me. It also helps when I eat a healthy lunch in school. If I have things which are unhealthy or fried, I just get bad headaches, and I can't think straight.

if its not prescribed for you, too bad. and you can only really get addicted to it if you dont take it in moderation trust me i took it for almost a year of my life.

If you only take it once a day like you're supposed to, and you actually do have AD(H)D, then you won't get any form of addiction. I've been taking a very similar medication for at least 5 years now with no issues.

this, i havent been taking it for five years, only around 2 but still

and you actually do have AD(H)D
I don't. My stepdad got AD(H)D after a brain injury, but I doubt my mom would let me take one of those pills a day.

i take strattera
makes me tired
tired, but focused

It's also possible that you aren't getting enough sleep which causes lack of concentration.

Well if you don't have ADD/ADHD then definitely do NOT take it, as it will quite literally have the opposite effect and make you act like you do have it, which will only make things worse.

This might be it. I've been getting up earlier this year and I go to bed fairly late.

If you need to focus, if you're at home... use this

I use a rain simulator on my Ouya to help me study, relax, sometime take a nap :P

If I told you anything I'd be a hypocrite.
You've never had this problem before? I've never heard of anything changing that dramatically.
