I think you put a case over the back, like you would with the cover over your battery pack, right?
holy stuff thank you for being sensible
i mean like duh they'd put a case on it imagine if you dropped it and all the parts exploded everywhere, that would suck.

Like I said before nothing about this product is feasible. I doubt it would even decrease waste. Phones components are so small that putting them into some modular box system would make them gigantic. Also on top of this how the forget would you be able to replace a storage drive with a battery? They don't do anything remotely similar. Like phones aren't just a bunch of components slapped on a pcb all willy nilly. They're very carefully designed to have all the components work together.

This whole video reeks of someone who has 0 understanding of anything they're talking about. This guy did absolutely nothing special at all. He just said guys wouldn't it be sweet if we had a modular phone that did all this cool stuff.

This idea is going nowhere, there are so many things wrong with it that it boggles my mind that anyone takes it serious. This idea really looks like some "designer" just made a video about something they thought was cool without having any knowledge at all about what they're talking about.

Problem sir?

It all starts with ideas.

It all starts with ideas.
And the ideas that aren't based in reality are the ones that don't even make it to the functional prototype stage.

In the video he never said a single thing about actually planning on having it built, just that it should be looked into by the big companies.

And this is a bad idea. It was thought of by a guy that has no understanding of the technology he's talking about. Most good ideas aren't thought up by somebody who doesn't have a clue of what they're doing.

He gives 0 explanation of how it'll work. It would be like me making a video saying I want to make a car that has a battery that lasts forever and then just showing some cool looking drawings of a car and saying how awesome it would be.

It's a stuff idea by a guy who has no understanding of what he's talking about. I'm sure it's been thought of then completely trashed because it's an awful idea. I also seriously doubt even half of anybody saying it looks cool would buy one. It would just make getting a phone more of a hassle.

it's because we're dirt poor.

and then when it happens you're gonna be all like

Yeah, I'm pretty confident it won't though. Phonebloks is as serious of an idea as the hoverboard in back to the future was.

and then when it happens you're gonna be all like

That's assuming it's even possible and profitable enough for corporations to invest so much money into research and development.

lol idiots are saying its impossible, yeah it would be hard. But anything is possible it just takes a while to figure out.

I can already see third party dealers creating stuffty rip off items for this phone. Also imagine if nvidia wanted to part take. They could make custom gaming parts!

Love how some people say "this cant be done". People have been on the moon. Nothing is impossible. Impossible studf just take a bit longer to figure out

The people who voted down this video is iPhone-fanboys! - Simple as that!

Where did we go wrong?

Oh look new top comment;

For the people who say this is impossible. Well it is very possible. Building a pc is actually just like it. You have the base, then you have all the components that can replaced and upgraded. Now just imagine that just very smaller. Boom! You have a ugradable phone.
This makes absolutely no sense lol

I'd imagine that the first few, if made, would look like a "brick" cell phone (one the size of a home phone handset) and would be really expensive.

There are no rights nor wrongs to brainstorming, he is free to think and publish (lawful) ideas.

A few STEM companies and/or people will see the idea once it's thunderclapped, it's their choice whether or not to engineer it, but it'd benefit other people.

To all you people saying it isn't technologically possible:

100 years ago, most people were 100% convinced we'd never get to space.

Back when computers were the size of half your house, nobody thought that they'd one day fit in your pocket while being 100s of times faster and more powerful.

Back when steam engines (not locomotives) began to be attached to carts and such, nobody was open to the idea that they could be actually useful. Now, we have millions of cars traversing roads worldwide, 24/7.

If you don't give technology a chance, and dismiss it without first testing it extensively, how do you expect us to make progress in the technological world?

I don't see how this isn't feasible. Very very cool idea.
