Chat Taunts
Logo here later probably.

Info
"Chat Taunts" is a simple mod i'm making that lets you say stuff in the chat with a sound to go along with it. You type into the chat: @ and the name of the sound, and it will make you say the correct message and play the sound that fits it. For example, you would type @backup and it would make you say (Voice) I need backup! and play the sound where your player is.

Sounds
I'm thinking of allowing pack Add-Ons, like ChatTaunts_TeamFortress2, so you can distribute them without needing to modify the add-on. It will also come with some sounds built in, here are the list of sounds i've made:
  • backup
  • excuseme
  • good
  • goodjob
  • hello
  • helpme
  • hi
  • howareyou
  • laugh
  • letsgo
  • littlehelp
  • wtf

That sounds neat so far.
Could you possibly add a female voice as well? That way if the girls talk, it won't sound like they have a male voice.

Nice
Keep up the good work

Blockland doesn't really have genders, just high-pitched voices. If you really wanted to you could make a female voice pack.

Here is the progress so far on how packs will work:

The add-on is called ChatTaunt_Pack_Name.
Inside, there is a file called sounds.txt, and the sounds (preferably in wav format).

For every sound, you need to add a line to sounds.txt like so:
Code: [Select]
NEWSOUND file.wav This is what it says!(There is a tab between NEWSOUND and file.wav, it's just BLF being dumb.)

I'm going to keep it this way most likely, so you can start working on packs now if you want to.

Added @list, which lists all the available taunts.

I wasn't aware that "Hi" was a taunt lol.

It's just a name silly, it could also be used for roleplay. Metrocop voices?

Most of these aren't really "taunts". Actually, none of them are...

I remember a server having something like this (it was in a Murder Mystery server)
Whenever you type /sneak the voice says "Whoooo's trying to sneak up on me?"
It sounds like Ellis though

I did the exact same thing as this haha
I was about to release it, but mine has a requires a client because it's like in TF2 where you open a gui and press a key 1-9

None of these sound like a blockhead

Even though the client needs this, it's so much better than having to type out the whole phrase. That causes distraction from battle.

Now that it may seem like I'm copying Valve here, but seriously I think it should be !.

Reasons why:

  • I know that @ is right next to ! on the keyboard, but more people recognize the position of !
  • If something is supposed to be sound-based, ! is used for emphasis in writing and dictation, so it should fit hand-in-hand with this system.
  • There are already mods that use the @ symbol.

Now if Blockland doesn't pick ! up, which it should be able to I would still recommend a different symbol for the third reason.
