Author Topic: A serious attempt at joining NASA  (Read 1760 times)

Oh boy. So, since the age of 5 I wanted to be an astronaut. I looked at the requirements and well, things are looking exceptionally chipper.

All I need to do is in 11th grade take AP physics, finish with a 4.0 GPA, get to a good college (it's gotta be accredited of course) get through that and attain an undergraduate degree in physics, go to a graduate school, get a doctorate as my 3 years experience, make a lengthy resume and some references (cover for me, guys)after that, wait for the application window, go to the interview like a champ, and If I pass, I train for a total of 2 years on basic operations and stuff and then furthermore pass them with flying colors and finally complete military aqua training.

 That means:
I gotta swim 3 35 meter laps without stopping and in a flight suit and be able to tread water for 10 minutes.

Just a question, Is it hard to swim 3 thirty-five meter laps without stopping?

I can't even swim at all lol

I would say no.

I could do it and Im not very good at swimming. With a jumpsuit on though? I dont know.

I dont really care for swimming so I wouldnt do something that required me to pass demanding water tests.

You forgot tennis shoes and a flight suit

oh wait, I did forgot that in the op

Good luck to you! I believe you can do it.

I mean, its only 105 meters so... only one side of a track

Actually, now that I think of it, it isn't that bad. However, the statistics for applying are pretty narrowed down.

Around 4000 applications get submitted per every 2 years during the window.

Around 100 of those people get picked for training

After that, it narrows down to roughly 10 or 20 astronauts. Total.

we're talking about going into space
space
I think most people would be able to deal with a swimming test that is required for the sake of safety in order to be an astronaut even if I didn't like swimming

but of course if you're not interested in space then I totally understand

they stopped using space shuttles...

I always thought the under water test was for holding your breath as a kid.

well hopefully, at some point, you might be able to land on mars

Well, look here night fox. The swimming thing is an Earth based safety protocol that was put in order because if the capsule crashes too hard or the parachutes don't deploy, you need to get the forget out or drown or just get crushed due to the pressure

Yea but im more talking like Navy Seals, Marines, Pilots and other stuff.

Thats IF I could get into the military even.

You don't need to be a militant to be an astronaut, citizens apply all the time.

If that's what you meant. This isn't the space marines of tomorrow.

I didn't say anything that disagreed with that in any way so why are you telling me that
I even said that it was required for safety anyway
