Author Topic: snap.do  (Read 3240 times)

God damnit they made it hard to get rid of this time. Not even malwarebytes detected it. It's not in extensions or programs. I cant even identify where it is on the computer.

If you don't know what snap.do is, it's a browser hijacker that replaces the "new tab" page with some loving search engine called snap.do.

what?
Translation: Throw your computer out the window.

Try check for it in Programs and Features in the control panel and uninstall it from there.

im pretty sure there's some guide around here for how to delete snap.do
if you want to go find it it was in some other topic with similar website virus problems

This happened to me. But I deleted it. Google chrome Btw. What I did was History>Extensions and deleted it. I also switched my Homepage to Google Chrome. If it's not popping in extensions, then your problem is different from mine.

Weird, Anti-Block was having problems with the same thing.

Cassord is an idiot. Expect more behavior like this from him.

instead of asking the malware bytes forum for help imma just ask blockland for help

If you're using Chrome, go to the three lines at the top left of Chrome, Tools, then Extensions. You could find something there.

If you're using Firefox, again, check your extensions.

If that doesn't work, get AdwCleaner, or Spybot Search & Destroy.

Try check for it in Programs and Features in the control panel and uninstall it from there.

It isn't in the extensions list or the "uninstall a program" list. This thing is hidden in my computer somewhere.

They're all outdated. This is constantly changing and it even managed to avoid malwarebytes.

Try HitmanPro. It manages to detect and delete files from Conduit, so it should do the same.

Or go with adwcleaner.

I have achieved more information on the virus and changing.
Apparently it is installed with something called "vShare". You can remove it, but that doesn't change your settings.

To change it back and remove all leftover items , you must:

1. Remove the program in the Uninstall area. The program name is Snap.do. Check Program Files (x86) or Program Files too.

2. To remove the residue in Chrome, go to the three lined box, then Settings. Search for Manage search engines and switch it to Google or your preferred search engine.

3. To change the startup page to what it was, go to the On startup section and switch it to Open New Tab Page, Continue where I left off, or open a set of tabs and change it to the ones YOU prefer.

4. Download AdwCleaner. Close all programs and browsers before using the tool, then hit search. It should start looking for adware, including snap.do. Once it's done, hit Delete, and confirm each action by hitting OK.

5. Your computer will be rebooted. Wait for the reboot, and open it again and click Uninstall.

6. Update Malwarebytes. Once it is done, do a quick or full scan, your choice, with Malwarebytes.

7. When it finishes, show the results. Check off EVERYTHING if some aren't unchecked.  Click Removed Selected. If you are prompted for a reboot, reboot.

8. Download Hitman Pro. When it opens, select "No, I only want to perform a one time scan to check this computer" and leave registration alone (unless you really want to.)

9. Start the scan. It will look for viruses, trojans, rootkits, and tracking cookies and adware. You can choose to Quarantine, Delete, or leave alone the files. I would do Quarantine.

10. Once it is done, click Next. Click Activate free license and the files will be removed/quarantined/left alone.

Hopefully this solves your problem and I hope this isn't too much of a text wall.
