Author Topic: Wood Working Discussion  (Read 5911 times)

I was wondering if anyone here does any woodworking at all. I've been watching some videos online and I really want to try it. Some of the simpler stuff still looks amazing. I'm planning on building a desk out of 4x4 posts and 2x4's. Then building a butcherblock table top. It all seems pretty easy and from what I've seen will look amazing.

im taking a woodworking class in school

i like doing woodworking, and also a very small amount of welding and metalworking

woodworking is great for time wasting, and building semi-useful things, likes tables or chairs

I do a lot of woodworking as school and such.

Right now Im a student aid and help underclassmen with their projects and such. We work on anything from a mirror, to a cutting board, to a bowl.

Right now Im designing and building a Air Force shadowbox as a present for my dad.

To build the desk youll probably either A) Get a butcherblock table top or B) make your own

I added a secret drug compartment to a table I made in woodwork, teacher gave me extra marks for it.
He knew what it was for.

Woodworking can be pre fun, though I haven't done that much outside of school.

can you smith me a daedric sword
i'll pay you 14000 septims

measure like a motherforgeter or else your stuff'll be lopsided
also it'll pay to put a extra trim around the edges made of a 2x4 split in half long-wise
either that or round off the edges and paint it

god I feel so left out of this thread
my crafting level is only 34 :(

but the real question is what is your favorite kind of wood

I don't know what I'm talking about here, but here are some things I like to see in wood-work.

If it's furniture, smooth edges. Less likely to sustain severe injuries.

Personally, I like my fingers sans splinters, so sand your work down everywhere.

Give it a nice finish, so that it will have an appealing texture to it.

Yeah after watching some videos about it online I wish I took it in highschool. But since I have little experience with it I feel like a desk would be easiest to start with. Especially since it's easy to do. Nothing but flat cuts with a table saw or miter saw. Though a butcherblock table might be hard.

It's super super simple. But making it myself lets me get it to the exact size I want. I also plan on making another smaller one so I can put them together in an L shape.

I was going to just router the table top and cover it with some kind of clear oil. I want to paint the legs black maybe. Maybe use a router on all of the table too.

Also I want the tabletop to be made a butcherblock, I just did it in sktechup like this to find out how much all the wood to make the legs would cost.

Purple heart.

It shows no mercy.

Depends on what wood youre using

If you want to make it look nice it wont be just 2x4s

and if your making the top yourself you'll probably need a planer and jointer too

Like I said, no idea what I'm talking about, but I'm just saying those are the things I like to see.

This is all 2x4's and pretty much the same design, it looks nice.
