Author Topic: I got robbed of my GPA..  (Read 2694 times)

So I may be exaggerating in the title a bit, but essentially that's what is happening.

So Freshman year I took at least five weighted classes, so my GPA got a pretty good boost. Then next year I move out of state and unbeknownst to me, apparently my Guidance Counselor only counted one of those classes as weighted. So I realize this looking at my grades two years later as a Senior and I talk to my Counselor about it -who is a different person than I had here originally. Basically I'm told that it wouldn't be fair to the other students who didn't have that many weighted classes available to them, but to talk to the principal about it.

This doesn't make any sense to me, because thCIAn't just a competition for valedictorian, it's my GPA. Colleges and scholarships care about what my GPA is, it's not just about valedictorian. (My school is pretty small so I assume this is what my Counselor had in mind)

So then I talk to my Principal and he basically decides to do what my counselor decided on. And the worst part is, because only one of them was weighted it ended up being my lowest GPA in all of my High School years. I mean, can't I even have one or two classes count so that it's at least not my worst year?

It probably doesn't matter all that much, but still. It's a bit annoying,
so yeah, /rant

dang dude sorry "it wouldn't be fair" is absolute bullstuff idiots

Can't you sue them or something for fiddling with your scores?

aw man your GBA was robbed :(

Some colleges take out the "weight" of your GPA anyway and just count the class as AP or whatever it is. If you don't have a good GPA without the weight then that's kind of your fault.

That's different than where I used to go to highschool.

At our highschool, all freshmen courses are NOT weighted.

They only calculate GPA from Sophomore to Senior.

This country's education sucks. Mostly from the way they treat you.

I'm not surprised. We're so into the "fairness" mentality that its sickening.

Well I don't know if I could necessarily do that, but if I threatened to sue I'm sure they'd just change my GPA. However I'm not really in a good social position to do that, it would do more harm than good

But I guess it doesn't really matter that much because my GPA is fine without the weight. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or so.

I had four honors classes (one of which had upper class men) and one AP course, so if that was their thinking then I should have at least gotten one more weighted credit shouldn't I?

Most colleges don't care about your high school scores.

But it seems like you're trying to get into some prestigious places, so sucks to suck dude.

Also, they only weight the AP classes when going into college.  You'll still have to retake any honors level stuff.

Ah, ok that clears things up a little. The colleges I'm looking at aren't pushovers or anything but if most colleges don't look at that then I think I may be alright.

Most of them consider high school a "training for college".  Unless you went to a private school for rich kids, it doesn't really matter.  Try to take all AP classes whenever you can so you can at least skip those classes when going for your associates degree.  It makes the initial "2 year school" take an actual 2 years.

I hate it how some schools will pull the whole "wouldn't be fair to the other students" card.

But of course we can't have those pesky intelligent/dedicated students make the slower students feel bad now do we?
