Author Topic: Is Detroit the future of many other American cities?  (Read 4811 times)

I've been brown townyzing this with critical logical thinking for the past two years and it's been getting to me now and making sense. American cities tend to borrow so much money from sister cities (other cities they partner with and do trade and business with), and city council members of these cities and mayors borrow more money than they could ever get. It then turns into debt with all of these loans they are expected to give and it all adds up until the point where either almost every city service has to be cut financially or eliminated, or the city files for bankruptcy completely. Detroit used to be the auto capital of the world, it was also home to the American dream which does not seem as visible anymore. The American dream is no more. Many cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami borrow so much and fail to pay it back. If they keep doing this just like Detroit did then they will be just as bad as Detroit or worse. Chicago is already falling into crumbles, Miami is doing badly financially too, and same with most major Mid-West cities. Las Vegas is doing awfully too because the recession hit them hard but luckily they made it back up. We really cannot repeat history again. History is suppose to teach us human-beings what we shouldn't do in the future and we don't seem to be learning from our history and failures. Detroit is broke as a joke, the man who was once in charge of their education system could not even read or spell, America doesn't realize how bad Detroit is doing. If we don't wake up in time, it will be too late. It's bad enough that we're already going down culturally, financially, economically, and socially. I think city budgets need to be controlled more professionally. Many other American cities are going on the same path as Detroit did such as Toledo, OH, Buffalo, NY, and many other cities.

The problem is too many things are not regulated, and the middle class are a dying people.

What is your take on this matter? Will many American cities turn into ghost towns like Detroit in later years if they keep their ways up?

Hopefully ill be dead by then

The future depends on the youth, don't say that. Any positive impacts contribute to a longer preservation of the country.

it could happen to a few. but mostly no.

Detroit was uniquely forgeted up. they broke themselves.

this is some grade A conspiracy stuff

Yes, let's dismiss every single possible outcome and idea by calling it a conspiracy! That will contribute a bunch!

It also went down the sink because all of the former American car companies moved to Asia, Mexico and Europe mainly for the cheaper labor and parts.

Detroit still could be saved if people actually gave a stuff instead of dismissing it as their own loving fault.

We could play the "what if" game infinitely. The yellowstone super-volcano is overdue for eruption by 40,000 years. Conflicts in Syria could drive us into World War 3. Area 51 could be housing aliens that plan to eradicate human life. So yeah, it's a conspiracy.

I tell you what doesn't contribute: bitching about menial stuff.

Did you know that asking questions are good things? If we don't question everything repeatedly, how are we going to learn anything?

You think scientists call things a conspiracy and completely ignore them without testing them? I wonder how far back in technology we would be if we didn't.

Always question everything no matter how ridiculous.

If you saw what was doing there, you'd see how much damage the abadonment of properties did to the city. In the 50's, my cousins lived in Detroit and it was the true American dream. One of my cousins was a rabbi and owned a very nice shul in Downtown Detroit and had a gorgeous house in Bloomfield Hills and drove a nice Cadillac, my other cousin was a doctor and again lived a comfortable, lavish and happy lifestyle. You can't do any of this anymore. This is why people have to take care of their neighborhoods; even if they're poor or don't have help. If one block is dirty, crummy and filthy the rest of the blocks could end up like that and it'd spread. Poverty is one thing, but representation of your home is another. Growing up in poverty is not an excuse to do nothing with yourself. My friend has a grandmother who escaped the Holocaust and every penny was taken from her from the national socialist's. She owned a big salon business throughout Vienna, wanna know what ended up happening? The shop was burned, 75 years worth of stuff passed on from her grandparents were destroyed. Her grandparents escaped the Russian pugrum (when the Russians were so terrible to the Jews) and everything was taken from them, so they came to Austria and yet again another execution. Many people in this country make an excuse for their poverty, even if they have been through 3 generations of poverty. People should think twice about dropping out of high school, and having 5 babies which you can't afford at the age of 18. It's abusing the system and tax-payer money.

Yeah, uh, where did I say it's wrong to question stuff?

I said it was a cool conspiracy. Nobody is ignoring anything. What is wrong with you?

I apologize if I misinterpreted. You sounded like you were dismissing the topic because it was a conspiracy.

White Flight is one of the things that ruined the city. For those of you who don't know, it's when all the people with money that support the city leave due to either lack of jobs or increase in crime. Because the people with money ( and that does not mean just white people ) are leaving the town, jobs and other businesses cannot be supported anymore and so property values go down. Because the property values go down, regular neighborhoods that were once nice become ghettos because more of the criminals with less pay or no pay move in so they can hustle, and soon you have a ghetto. If GM hadn't abandoned the city like Boeing abandoned Seattle in the 60s, we could have another booming city and hub of industry. But now it's almost unable to be fixed right now - GM and Ford have moved back to Detroit and have bases there and while jobs are being created, there are still lots more ghettos than there are nicer areas.

I had to leave that out because otherwise I'll be shunned and called a tribal. Many groups of people (I think you know which) for generations go through poverty and turn nothing into nothing and don't accomplish much. Our American ancestors from Italy, Germany, Britain and all over were able to turn nothing into something, why can't our people do that? Also Baltimore is also going through a White Flight.
