Which has contributed more to Blockland?

The Development Team
The Modding Community

Author Topic: Development Team OR Modding Community?  (Read 4967 times)

One simple question before I go to bed:
Which has contributed more to Blockland, the development team (Badspot, Kompressor, etc) or the modding community?

[Discuss below who keeps the game alive, where it would be if either wouldn't exist, what the game would be like if one or the other was stuff at what they do, etc]

The development team keeps it alive because...it's the Development team...without it, there wont be Blockland. They update constantly to satisfy players by bug fixes that annoy them. In conclusion, I'd say Development Team.

The developmental team is what keeps the game going, so I'd have to say them. It's not to say that the modding community haven't contributed, but not as much as the developers who've worked very hard.

kompressor does engine updates, like the brick oct tree, physics and shaders, Badspot does all the torkscript work (I think) and creates content for the game, Rotondo creates some add-ons that are included by default, and the community creates tons of content that would be useless without the work of the first two.

So, you can say, both are equally important.
Without the development team we wouldn't have blockland, without the modding community blockland would die.

This.

I say the development team is more important because they made Blockland. There are default addons as well.

Don't get me wrong, the modding community is very important too.

If there were no add-ons, say, how long would you play before it gets boring? 1 day? 2 days?

I said that the modding community is very important as well.

This game would be dead without the modding community.

Pretty much every feature added after v8 was originally a mod.

1. Wrench Events. Corrected, my memory is faulty
2. Doors
3. Team Death Match
4. etc

This is basically a chicken or egg question.

Without development team, no blockland.
Without modding community, stuff game.

Personally, I say the development team has contributed more to blockland, but still, I won't be able to argue back if someone says modding community is more important.

Also, you forgot the builders: an almost extinct group of players.

This game would be dead without the modding community.

Pretty much every feature added after v8 was originally a mod.

1. Wrench Events.

You're wrong here. Space Guy made the wrench events after hearing about the events system for v9. He figured he could re-purpose his trap bricks add-on as a substitute for the event system.

I play Blockland a lot and I only own the vanilla version, since I keep downloading RTB and add-ons wrong.

Didn't Mr. Pickle make an events system before space guy?

Idk my memory is off.

damn you made a mistake. badspot got pissed at the fact that space guy took the wrench events idea and make a half-assed version before badspot finished his. so much that he brought it back up years later.
Quote from: Badspot
Don't: Rip off my add-ons and rush out your own half-baked version before I release mine.
he was probably even more pissed that noobs actually thought space guy's events were the 'original' conception.
