An Unearthly Child is the first story of Doctor Who, back in 1963.

I wish I was as edgy as you. But I can't be because I didn't watch the old doctor who.
Also, in case what I'm saying isn't obvious. Get the forget off your high horse.

You misused edgy.
I'm not on a high horse.
It's a joke.

1. The Three Doctors isn't the pilot episode
2. So I'd assume Episode 2 of Story 1
i confused two episodes haha
and oh okay

Oh really?
Bad joke is bad.

But enough derailing

OP, would you mind moisturising me?

why cant they just stay with one doctor

I'm pretty sure they've had more doctors than popes

Because the actors want to move on. In fact, The Doctor was supposed to be Hartnell but since the show got so popular, they couldn't just end it. So the writers then had to create a plot device to keep the story going.

David Tennant could have stayed forever. That would have been ok.

i too started with the 2005 reboot, i started last month actually. now in season 5, which i believe was considered a mini-reboot with new writers and whatnot. took me several episodes before i started to think i was enjoying the series, the quality of the costumes and cgi was certainly amusing during the first couple seasons.

several episodes made me think the series was a mini-horror/suspense thing, especially the empty child episode lol

i kind of like it too. getting attached to various actors is saddening when the next doctor comes along, but it's an interesting aspect of keeping the character alive and fresh

personally (though i've only watched the newer ones), i liked christopher and am enjoying matt, but david just seemed so much more entertaining and fun. i really didn't want him to go :(

To be frank, it's not. It's still in the main continuation.

David, at least for me, embodies what I would think a lonely time-traveler would be. Incredibly upbeat when doing what he loves, especially with others, and deeply saddened over the truth that is his loneliness.

I didn't see that as much in the others, though I haven't seen much of Matt yet.

Of course you didn't, back in the day he wasn't lonely. Pre-2005, there was no Time War, so Gallifrey/ Skaro and the Timelords/ Daleks were still alive.

I haven't even begun the 80s show. I was strictly speaking of the recent incarnation.

The Ninth was angry, the Tenth was lonely, and the Eleventh seems like he is getting over it (somewhat)
