Post what you like, and what you don't down below; i'd enjoy some tips and suggestions on what I should add/do.

it looks pretty promising, but i dont like how the platforms are floating. i think you should make the platforms on the water, then build up.

but looks good so far

Instead of the bases just brown, make them checkered brown and orange

Idk, I kinda like the brown just because if everything was checkerboarded it might start to look weird. I do like the border print he used though on the brown. Makes the squares kinda stand out which is all I think it needs (unless that's just the lighting)

I like :D

Does this look good?

that looks better
but try adding like a mountain or something like this

(copyright manchild the artist in residence of blockland)

something that you have to climb up then jump to something else
right now it looks a bit empty

I'd like to keep it out side to avoid the awkwardness of having to try to make a giant wall, but i'll make it a 2d-section as an outside version.

it is supposed to be attatched to my previous suggestion

its also not supposed to be 2d, its just my artist skills only go so far

Finally finished that part of the level.

What side textures did you use?

On a side note, is it me or are sonic games getting more and more automated?

Nope. Not just you.

Not a bad concept. I hope you use the grind rail and bumper mods with this.
Also, I understand that this is supposed to represent a 2D environment, but it looks rather boring from other sides. I am not use how that could be fixed without terrain overload.
