Author Topic: is the actual game just a paywall for the forums?  (Read 2812 times)

I bought this game about a year ago, forgetting about it relatively quickly. i came back to it after I saw it got greenlit (congratulations) and noticed its forum had a decent amount of regular members. I'm not in a position to judge the "quality" of the community, but i found out that the vast majority of posts were in the "off-topic" section of the forum as opposed to the other sub-sections that are relevant to the game. As well as this, the community activity in game was also kind of stagnant. This might just be because of timezones but it seemed that most of the time the amount of people on the forum outnumbered the amount of people actually playing the game

so is it something like somethingawful, where you pay money to be able to post on their forum? because it seems like people are using said forums more than they play the game, like the game is the enticing element that makes people want to join the community but only ever has anyone's attention every once in a while.

wot do ye fink?

you're posting this at 5am eastern time. literally no one is on right now.

i'd pretty much agree. people have a great enough desire to post here to be banned multiple times and still pay to come back.

i'm guessing people who get banned and pay for another account repeatedly are similarly demented?

Some people actually change when they come back.

Most don't, of course. I'm not sure if you're familiar with this already but people like Glass and Yola have bought thirty accounts at least. ($600)

Pretty much yeah.

Here's a good link for one case

It does piss me off to see that boards in the off-topic section are being used more than those actually relevant to the game that the forums are all about. There are some major contributing users to this but I won't call out any names.

I'm pretty sure the off-topic section was not intended to be the main purpose that people buy keys. That's just handicapped. Yet people do it.

I post in Off-Topic like... once every two years.

that's complete bullstuff

I like to think the reason to buy the game is to play the game and you get a sweet pass to a secluded community where you can stop talking about blockland and talk about other stuff

I think the metric ton of posts in off topic just signifies a bond between members that discussing the normal game couldn't create.

The $20 are a very efficient way to keep spam off the forum.

Not really, the amount of people online on forums is always over 100, even in my timezone.
Amount of people online on Blockland is usually much lower in my timezone, not sure about yours.

While some people are hopelessly addicted to the forums and would buy the game again to get back in, I doubt that's representative of most of the game's players. A good example would be the case of Glass. While he came back to the forums countless times despite earning the ire of most people every time he got booted out, his method of getting back in was to find some kid who doesn't use the forums and pay them to plug their key into his next alt.

I got tired of Blockland, especially after they took out maps, and just use the forums now because I have nothing better to do at school.
