Author Topic: How do you make an image transparent?  (Read 853 times)

I have Photoshop elements and Paint.net, but is there any way to have the transparent-ness carry over to the avatar?

did you upload a bigger one and let the forums resize it?

No, I made it exactly 75x75 pixels.

Click the magic wand tool in Paint.net and click the background of the image (or whatever you wanted to make transparent) then press the delete button on your keyboard. Save it as a .png

pretty much

note that depending on the image, you may have to play around with the tolerance value in the top. i find that values around 65-70% produce the best results

You gotta save it as a .gif for it to be an avatar.

Have fun. I did it for you.

100% untrue

what.
it worked for me.

When I mean you need for it to be a .gif, that's if you want it transparent. If you don't need it transparent, make it a .png.

Transparent PNG's work, they always have. And the GIF format doesn't use alpha layers, so the transparency is either true or false. It's really ugly.
