Author Topic: Ambient Occlusion ?  (Read 1988 times)

So I was loving around and suddenly realized...

Chrome effects at corners look a lot like ambient occlusion. Does the chrome effect we have drop the frame rate? Technically yes, but it's not really noticeable.

Wouldn't it be possible to use whatever method Badspot used for the chrome effects and use it for ambient occlusion? This and the shadows would look amazing.

the problem is that the chrome effect looks terrible

also that it looks more like it adds brightness rather than darkness

yes i'm just going to spraypaint my entire build chrome so that i can get an ambient occlusion effect
who needs colour anyway
everything is chrome in the future

angle yourself 30º more to your left
look at that corner
that is why nobody does this

Can I be reminded of what Ambient Occlusion does?

It makes smooooth shadows that compliment the details of the model.

No, guys...

I mean if this is possible with the chrome effect with no lag, why can't this be done with GLSL?

what...
do you even know what a/o is

the FX paints do actually take a toll on FPS

Now, keep in mind the percentage of FPS loss to a normal brick is absolutely tiny

However, if you repainted Sylvanors Seattle with all chrome/rainbow/undulo and had the setting that handles FX (i dont know it off the top of my head, its been a while since ive played), you would definitely notice a lower FPS

edit; not taking into account that that isn't at all what AO is

I realized that. This would still look good though.

Not to mention, bricks with paint FX cannot be seen through transparent bricks...
So how would windows?
