Author Topic: Would it be against the rules to post a chatbot?  (Read 5194 times)

I am wondering if posting a link to a chat bot in the modification discussion section is bannable.
That's all.

chatbots are super loving annoying, but I doubt it's bannable. I would recommend not posting it just purely out of the fact that chatbots are stale, useless and spammy.

well i wouldn't say bannable, but if it's something hacky then it'll probably get sent to the failbin

I don't think it's bannable but I'd stay safe and not post it.

Doubt it'd be bannable, especially if you had good intentions. Unless you said something like "Here, everyone, use this to piss people off," I suspect they'd just remove the link if anything at all.

My HamBot is not designed to be used to annoy people. Only 50% of the features are supposed to be like a typical chatbot.

do the world a favor: only use it on your own server

Ham? Did you say ham? A chat-bot with some ham is what everybody needs! No but seriously, just to be on the safer side; you should go with your gut and don't post it. If something seems iffy then most of the time you shouldn't do it.

whats the point of chatbots anyway?

i've seen some chatbots that can be useful, like ones that can tell you stats or something about the server/gamemode

but most chatbots are more annoying than anything

The only annoying feature mine has is chat copying, especially if you turn it to '%ALL'...
Although my bot, by default, gets commands by reading them off the chat GUI instead of using clientCmdMessageSent(). That way, you can use HamBot without anybody knowing.
In fact, I shouldn't be calling this a chatbot, since it's mostly a client-sided helper.
